Just because you find something once on a station doesn't mean they all like it, it could have been that some random pirate who had a pet or something. Having things homogeneous is BORING! By having some random stuff appearing it makes it seem like the stations have different kinds of inhabitants. Maybe the Microsaur is the pet of the children of the pirates living on the station. The Dwarg armor is there because a few years back the pirates had an epic battle with a Dwarg convoy and they haven't managed to sell it off yet.
My thoughts exactly.

I'll be observing from afar.

It is my opinion that pirates attack, destroy, and loot whatever they can get their greedy, greasy little hands on (sound familiar.......). So it is quite feasible for them to have just about anything, especially since they loot Korolov shipping freighters. Microsaurs sell well and for a good price, but it most likely would have to be fenced since pirates can't just go and at Commonwealth stations, and there probably isn't any other groups interested. That would be the same for many other items. Urak armor is free cash if they can offload it to some sucker.
And other factions, like xenophobes, ares, phobos, ect. blast their way through systems, probably looting them along the way. So it is quite possible (from a realistic view) for any faction that is aggressive to loot fallen enemy ships/stations for whatever they need, want, or can sell.
Just be glad that pirates don't upgrade their ships armor with loot they find. Would you really like a pirate's Corsair to be sporting some nifty level V armor in the first few systems?
And besides, if they all had only a certain number and type of loot, some items would be difficult, if not nearly impossible to find as loot.
For Sale: One slightly used EI500 freighter. Hull damaged, primary weapon defective, shields inoperable. Must be towed to Dry-dock. Make an offer!!

Its been said before, but agree with it completely that Charon Pirates would pirate and loot things from more difficult systems and try to keep them to get cash or better ships. Have you ever seen pirate movies? They always take on the powerful british! I'd consider this along the same lines. We could change it, but everything is done by levels which seems to make sense for the most part?

OK, so that fixes the problem for Charon pirates. But it happens elsewhere -- Centauri raiders with bolts of neolinen. Uraks with bottles of Saki. Mainly, it happens in the early systems, in the later ones it seems to be fixed.

STill, as I said, it's not a game-breaker for me, or anything, but a little quirk that seems out of place with the usually flawless game that George has made.

In the later games most stations have whatever they have equipped or have specialized cargoes. The early game is denser so it has to have more complex tables, meaning that they have different cargoes.

All of the loot tables are contained in Transcendence.xml and you can edit them to your heart's delight so that hyperion reactors and IFCs drop 50% of the time in &trStationSupplies; (which is called by many stations)...

or make a custom table and apply it to whatever stations you want...

or have a background station adjust loot drops when a ship or station is destroyed...

or...

If we were to move to a logical loot system, a single stations would hold millions of tons of items (most would be mundane and worltheless), not to mention all the corpses....

But in that case, it would be pretty useless to sort though within game, who would want to sort through that
We would need to impliment a G-D mod feature of sorting.
