There's a recurring problem I've been having on my Vistaster laptop where the game doesn't always close properly. The game shuts, but task manager shows a Transcendence.exe thread under "processes", and only after that process is ended can the game be re-opened (otherwise debug log doesn't initialise, you get an error message, and it fails).

Wolfy and I have had a look at this, but we can't tell if it's the game, or Vista. Probably vista...

Anyone else experienced this?

Actually, I'm still looking into this, to try to see what's causing it. Pretty sure it's vista though.

[edit]

yes, it seems to be your install of vista causing the issue, since transcendence consistently shuts down for me.

vista here, no problem while closing the game.

try to shutdown other processes and see if they are causing some kind of conflict.

You should at least try to close the game on the processes tab. This may occur for just conflicts or you have opened the game twice. Anyway, the game is just fine here on my vista.

Once Upon a time I used to build computers with a friend: results were varied but I usually fell to pieces.

The biggest problem with the OS models after XP is DMR ( digital media rights ) features and trash ideas born of too much Pandering and not enough work.

Pandering OS systems usually collect registry errors and bad links to records deleted as it tries to track everything you do with it
( The new systems DO NOT forget : they are Rats on your Golden Ark ( i have windows 7 : in a box, it never comes out, I trust my XP and can do anything I want except load that file over there.........lol . But seriously: I got it on an Acer, but will not use it except during power outs and then I ONLY play Transcendence on it with my Nephews))
::disk clean up ++Defrag ++
There are free programs on MajorGeeks that can do good things for your system ( most of the stuff on that site is Geek Tested, and they have never failed me in getting a problem solved : I am also a member.....but thats not why I suggest it ).

I have Game Boost ( it's a Dell, it needs help ), AML free registry cleaner AVG ( maualy update it from the Geeks site, they get most update patterns for free+ free download )

After using Anything to tidy your files: make sure the defrag is good then restart.
