I'd really love to make up some customised shields for station use, and rebalance a whole bunch of factions based on that.....but I'm 99.999% confident the engine doesn't allow stations to use a shield*. This allows a different sort of regenerative health to the existing regen on stations: The player can knock out a shield and damage/kill the station, but if they go away, the shield will be back up and repairs will have started..but it will still be damaged, and an easier target than before...whereas the only way nowadays to get that sort of effect is to have a very high regenerative effect, which can result in the station regenning faster than the player can fire at it. There's also basically no way to implement a shield downtime, which could be useful for larger, nastier stations (Shield goes down, you've got some time to hammer it before it goes back up.)
Problems I can see:
-The Invincible Class deflector and other shields that harm or zap the player when they fail probably won't do well trying to EMP a station.....although being able to knock out the weapons on stations for a few seconds with an EMP would be REALLY nice, actually.....

I was testing The Will of The Gods v1.5 on 1.7a I think, and I put shields in every station, but when a Drone or a missile capable of passing through the shield hit the station, the game just crach...

I'd really, really, really love to see shields on stations- heavy duty shields much stronger than those made for ships, for proportionally bigger stations. It'd make a hell of a lot more sense than the current "just let the weapons fire hit the stations where thousands of people live/work". It never made sense to me before. Should create a ticket for it to bring it to George's attention.

Well until something change I'll just use the CSC's base code for my "shielded-stations"

I have often experimented with Kadium Shields on Stations: in some versions it takes fine : others not even noticed :
I do totally agree that stations should have shields : without a shield anything in the line of fire for weapons, debris and asteroids is toast.
I would like to see more dynamic elements like shields : stations that get actually built ( like Korolov actually completing the process ) and things that MOVE : without tanking the CPU on Lesser then Great computers ( not sure how that could be done But there are Great Minds in the game
I know that if there is a way : it will get found and beaten to death so it works
