The game is really lacking in profile for ships right now so something that could simulate that nicely is have the mask file contain percentages to hit that certain spot. That way we can differentiate between paper ships and box ships.

currently the mask works as a yes no for where something can get hit. I would like it to define the percentage to be hit there (such as 127,127,127 for 50% of getting a strike there) if they don't get a strike there it would pass right through. This would allow us to simulate profile in the y axis (or z axis depending on how you want to label them).

So as to distinguish between the thinner and thicker parts of the ship? Like if you have a dumbbell shaped ship. You'd put a higher percentage at the ends and a lower one in the middle? Seems like a good idea to me but is it currently modable? Can't think of anyway to do it.

yep thats it.
Its not modable currently but it wouldn't be hard to put it in the mask file and put in a couple more lines of code.

an example where it would make sence would be the prongs on the Dreadnought should have a lower chance to hit

How often would you check? if you have a long ship with a thin profile, it is possible for a weapon to miss the leading edge, but hit the ship somewhere in the middle.

It should be. Maybe, the ship could be divided into sections and all the parts which are in the part of the blast would be checked. Atleast that's what I think. I dunno what Betel thinks
