Now I suppose its been put there so people don't kill all ships for the loot. I don't think its a good idea to remove it all together. But its still a pain and it gets worse as the game progresses. You can take out some docked ships with only one or two shots as your weapons are probably very strong and have a very long range by then. I just died because I ran outta fuel cause this dry dock I saved from the slavers won't let me dock.
Anyway, how about putting an undockable titanium barricade ring just around the docking range of the stations. That should absorb some stray shots. And if you did want to destroy the station, it shouldn't be too hard to bring it down. Also it should belong to a new sovereign so hitting it doesn't infuriate the station behind it.
Decreasing weapon range would help. Trimming weapon range to 100 (max LRS range) would help prevent shooting something you can't see. But that would take sniping out of the game. I made a mod to halve weapon range and see what its like. I put it up here

Anybody else have any ideas?
Grrrr..."docking request denied" again. Solutions?
Well, instead of have titanium barricades around stations (which would unfortunately also stop reds from attacking greens, which would be bad for gameplay), you could increase the amount of damage that stations will allow to something several times higher.
Also, how about if the player has destroyed and green stations in the past it requires only one shot for the station to react?

How about if you do less than X% damage, to a CW or Corporate station they just charge you for repairs the next time you dock there (or any other station belonging to the same sovereign). If you can't pay they (Corporate) Confiscate your goods (non-military CW) place a lien on your transactions, or (military CW) require that you bring them the replacement equipment from another station.
I like Burz's idea. there's nothing more annoying than defending a station and getting a few stray shots off. Especially on some of the defense missions where you've got quick enemies swarming all over the station you're trying to protect. I like the idea of having to bring replacement parts from another station, but that won't solve the out of fuel problem. However, the "pay for your damages or leave" option would. I personally thing stations could have weak shields with a quick regen. At least the bigger ones. I could see that being a problem with the defense missions, but for most of the stations it would be a nice saftey net.

I run into this when docked and forgetting to disable the ICX.
I've left Ringer stations and had them open fire on me.
It doesn't really make sense that your ICX continues to fire while you are docked.

Well your enemies can fire at you when you are docked, that is the game does not pause. So, its like leaving your car running while you step into the store.dvlenk6 wrote:I run into this when docked and forgetting to disable the ICX.

That's what I first thought of but killing any of the docked ships also makes them angry. This is a problem later on when your ships get stronger. Is there a way to extend the shield beyond the station for a short distance. And they don't need quick regen. All they need is a shield which would take in enough stray shots so that you can correct your aim.sponge wrote:I personally thing stations could have weak shields with a quick regen. How about being able to hail the station on the comm frequencies and pay reparations that way? Once you'd paid your way back into good standing, the station's defenders would stand down and you could dock and go about your business. Burzmali's idea is great except that it would allow you to dock with stations that you're in the middle of deliberately destroying.
This could also be used for negotiating with certain hostile stations for temporary permission to dock and buy/sell contraband.

Perhaps you can increase the damage they'd take before denying you access and then have the station automatically charge you when you dock with them (like they do for decomtamination). That still doesn't answer how to keep them from getting angry when you shoot down one of the docked ships by mistake. Similar problem with Korolov. I get to the highest rank. Your ship needs to be very strong to play the commissioner mission and one stray shot makes them blacklist you. There should be a way to get back into good standings with them or maybe you could implement a points system with severe penalties for shooting down a freighter.
