I've been playing with a bunch of custom mod ships and I find it easier to beat the Iocrym with a ship with Maxspeed =6 as this matches that of the Iocrym and it becomes easy to maintain a constant distance of 25 and not worry about its repellers and plasma throwers. What I don't like is that its easier to beat the Iocrym in an inferior ship with maxspeed = 6 than, say, the Wolfen. Same case with the Korolov freighter escort missions if you are using an omni weapon. For example, with a EI100/M modship I can comfortably set my ship in the right direction then press A and relax until those red blips appear. With the EI500, I constantly find myself checking my course as my speed and diretion don't exactly match the freighter I'm escorting. My point here is that you don't always want to travel at your ship's maximum speed.
So, how about a control which lets you control your throttle which limits the max speed. It could be made on the lines of the Jotun deflector or it could open up a screen asking you to enter the maximum speed you want to travel at as a fraction of the light speed.

what I would love is a text output of your speed (maybe one of those arrow things)
that way you can save fuel buy knowing exactly when you are at max speed and could adjust your speed to a known thing easier.
