Recently returned to Transcendence after a long hiatus, and I thought I'd mention one of my favorite little things: Routine shipping.

It always gladdens my heart when I see an armed transport and it's zulu escort, and not just because I'm going to blow it apart and take its cargo. Seeing a group of ships just going about their business really adds to the feel of the game, I think.

Some suggestions in that vein:

Mining ships, maybe going from mining asteroids to corporate stations or outlaw stations. I'd like to know who those outlaw asteroids sell to, actually, and why they're outlaws. (Licensing fees maybe? Seems a bit harsh to kill them in that case)

Freighters and escorts leaving from Korolov stations. Surely they're not all waiting around for you to provide protection.

Commonwealth Militia ships flying patrols on those nav beacons. Those Centurions and Ronins need to earn their pay in those times I'm not leading slavers back to them.

CSC's and Ares fighting running battles. We're not going to win the war by endlessly circling our bases, guys!

Pilgrims travelling to and leaving the Sisters of Domina.

Freighters everywhere. Interstellar commerce is cool. Especially the military freighters, which don't get enough love.

...

I'm aware that most of these are generated in missions. But having them turn up when the player isn't specifically involved would really add to the feeling of a vibrant, living cosmos rather than a big space-dungeon with space monsters waiting in their 10'x10' space station guarding the space-gold pieces.

Plus, you could blow them up and take their stuff.

I like roaming ships too. Almost every mod I've made has roamers. :D

Agreed. Immersion is cool. I speak enough about this here so that's all I'll say.

I also love seeing other ships going about their business. It really adds to the feel of the game and provide great looting opportunities. If there were more then there would probably have to be police added (possibly the militia) to patrol and help clean space of people who prey upon innocent (or not so innocent) freighters.

Or the CW police (see mod thread).
