So, I was cruising along on autopilot, in an area I thought was safe, when suddenly I hear "BREEK! BREEK!" and my screen is flashing red. It was a ranx dreadnaught, of course. I nearly had a heart attack.

However, that wasn't too entertaining at the time. It seems that this sort of terrifying noise happens when a kiloton shell fragments right on top of you, and all of the fragments hit. The way the game handles the noise, it comes out really, REALLY loud, with a high pitched squeaky noise at the top because they're slightly out of synch.

This effect is so much louder than that other sounds in the game; would it be possible to reduce the volume on the kiloton shots, or alter the way simultaneous sound effects are handled?

I love that noise! Especially how it fills you with fear like that :P Games need more of this sort of thing.

However, I see your point and lowering the volume of it might be in order.

I also hate that noise - it really does sound awful - basically an instant immersion break. It also happens when you hit stations with fragmenting weapons.

You also get a similar effect with dual configuration weapons, especially beam types. You can play 'music' on curved surfaces, because the delay between the shots hitting changes the tone of the interference.

Anyway, while having elements in games that increase your heart rate may stave off health problems, I'm not a fan of the adrenaline rush.

I love that noise too. I also like how it is louder and different as compared to the frag or a less threatening weapon.

BANG! Yikes! BANG! Run away! Silence. Whew, gotta love the ICX!

I like the ranx sound, it is great at telling you you're screwed.

Are we talking about the same noise?

I'm talking about how every time I use a frag missile I get a sound on impact five to ten times louder than the regular explosion - not to mention very distorted or worse, "stretched out" because the hits are a little off (which causes a kind of ringing sound as well) .

Well, that's the one I wanted changed. I'm all for knowing you're screwed, but just the crump sound that a ranx shot makes is adequate for that. It doesn't need to be played at 500% volume with funky distortions.

But I *loik* the distortions. :P
That's the best part of the noise

I don't think it should be any less loud....... Maybe a bit less destorted, but it just makes sense that 10 high velocity shells hitting your shield at the same time would sound insanely loud from the inside of the ship.

Then directly make a single sound that loud for player ship hits.
