pteravors need to get nerfed

You were mostly right :)

-The timer is run every 17 tics which is a little less than 2 times per second (30 ticks per second)

- if you were to destroy the station from more than 30 ls away, and wait the pteravores will still be there when you get close, the chance to stop only happens when you're close.

-They only send out 2-4 pteravores at a time, but because the event runs almost twice a second it turns into a swarm.


Even if you let the game run for a week, if you're more than 30 ls away there will be pteravores when you get close. Your best bet is to destroy the nest and hide somewhere close to the wrecked station to run out the timer. Hiding behind a manipulator is a great strategy. Also, make sure you destroy the pteravores before accepting the svalbard explorer mission and it becomes a cake walk.

Either I destroy it before the mission, or sometimes for fun if I have a decent multiprojectile weapon (Ferian Plasma Cannon) I just run ahead of the Explorer and distract the nest's 1-at-a-time firings. Playing dodge-the-pteravore is fun.

really great analysis, blitz. that does clear up a whole lot on my end. i probably did do exactly as you say and just used my targeting rom and radar to see that the nest was 'dead' but in fact was waiting for me. good to know for my next run through and very clever on george's part for the pteravores. i still think they're a bit overpowered, but not completely unreasonable.

Hmm...you're right. I calculated it wrong. My values are double the correct values - it's 1.76 per second...

Doing additional damage to the wreck should run down the timer. You are, after all, presumably killing more of them with each shot now that the hive is breached.
