Well, it might be a bit of a major change, but if gravity were to be implemented, shots passing too close to a planet could have their trajectories altered. Though right away I could see a player using that to their advantage by whipping shots around the gravity well of a planet, while the station just keeps firing and missing.

At the speeds , accelerations, and distances in game a realistic gravity system wouldn't be noticed by the player.

I'm not suggesting a realistic gravity system, more one that would change the angle of a shot fired over a planet by anywhere from 1-45 degrees, depending on how close to the center the shot is to the planet. This way the shots are not simply blocked by the planet, more just misdirected.

Wouldn't that work only for missiles, no energy weapons and such?

Well, missiles, mass drivers, howitzers, and what not, yeah. The faster the projectile, the less time it's in the gravity field, and the less deviation it would have.
