George mentioned the use of the unique="true" value in a Stationtype tag a while ago, and it wasn't until I went back and re-read the topic (on station trading, i think) that I noticed that he had given me a great new mod tool.

This quality for a station means that it will only appear once in a game. In addition, the regular level and rarity values can apply, as well as the rest of the modifiers. This is a great feature!

For my test I built an extension and thought up some names for some more noteworthy and notorious Outlaws, and a couple of smaller Pirate organizations.

I copied over the outlaw camp station code, then buffed it up a little differently for each of the ten names for unique outlaws I came up with. I did the same for a pirate type station for four unique pirates.

This was great! Now I have 14 unique little 'slightly tougher' outlaw and pirate uniques that should only appear once in the game, to spice things up a tad.

I play tested a few runs, and what do ya know- unique, easy to create stations. The outlaws were tougher, but not too tough, and the unique little "so and so's gang" made discovering them kind of fun.

Now I wonder- why not make a bounty type item (like a frozen bad guy boss in a cryotank) that could be only found in a unique station- each unique station gets a unique 'boss' treasure, and then have a CW Justice department or Bounty Hunter's Guild to take the bounty item and score some rewards- sound fun?

[Yes, this would pour more money into the economy, but let's pretend the economy was already fixed enough to make bounty hunting viable]

Anyhow, how about some ideas for unique enemies? This could be an unlimited expansion in many respects!

I will put together a big group of uniques to release as an extension that will work with the recommended mod format and stand alone- in a bit. :)

Here's the little prototype I tested- plop it into any extension folder to check out the unique outlaws and pirates I added: Unique Enemy Sample

You could use this to make "base stations": stations that are a *lot* tougher, control the star system, and not meant to be destroyed except by mission (when you have lots of help).

Yes, absolutely. I am sketching out a bounty hunter mission type concept- you have a pool of unique really bad bad guys as unique stations. No guarantees you will get these to appear- very random and restricted chances. In each of these stations would be a unique bounty item. This item is only useful too you if you are part of a hunter's guild type of station- where you can redeem it to progress through missions.

I am hoping to make it sort of come in versions- like a CW justice (white?) vs. a grey or black mercenary operation. (similar friendly stations may be targets for these such as stand alone corporations or independent colonies) Black Market type expansions and mercenary operations could make switching over to a 'rebel' faction early on a way to play- perhaps becoming allied with the Sung in later portions of the game (as a route to the QAC even)

Unique stations could make a lot of interesting mods- expansion of the basic enemies with some tough unique versions, specialized sets that you can try to find as many as possible in a game, mission related, friendly specialists, and so on.
