targetability of ships

I was wondering if you can put in something that allowed ships to not be targetable by the player. In a related want it would also be cool if you couldn't see certain ships on the minimap.

for minimap visibility- give it stealthy armor (and shield?).
as for targetability: give it two events:
1 oncreate- starts the second recurring frequently
2 checks to see if it is targeted by the player, and if so un-target itself.

having hundreds of events called a second seems a bit impractical.
Non targetable can be done with stations just not ships.
do you know the specifics of stealth?
