How do we balance items across different play styles?
Balance can be done but how do you take into effect the different play styles? For example I don't like shot gun type weapons and for me to use them it would take alot more buffing for me to use it than for someone else (some people even use it now). Even if you could get your style of playing perfectly balanced it could be drastically imbalanced for other people. This isn't a problem with most other games because the play styles are basically the same and they are not concerned with having people play differently.

I understand that but that doesn't mean there isn't unbalanced things. There is a thread called exploits even.
The reason I made this thread is for ideas on how to make it reasonable for people to switch weapons even if it isn't your play style. Right now there are some weapons not used (too weak even if a person likes them) and some weapons that you have to use (mostly the weapons for the last boss)

Give later ships weaknesses to more less powerful weapons?
