There is currently very little interaction between where the player is and its environment. So here is a brainstorm on various effects.
Disables shields
Degrades armor over time
sticky (allows effects to last even after you leave the space environment for a certain period of time)
opaque to ion
opaque to laser
opaque to partical
opaque to positron
opaque to plasma
expands ion weapons (expands the weapon shape)
expands positron weapons (expands the weapon shape)
changes resistance of shields
changes resistance of armor
"exploding" (when mixed by a weapon or ship makes small explosions)
makes shields opaque
decelerates non beam weapons
damages external devices
refuels with an correct device (fast)
pushes space objects away
pulls space objects tword
