I had a an idea.. basically.. when you take armor and weapon to get fixed, they become refurbished. Their value (to sell back later) would be based on how damaged they were in the first place and one would never get more than 50% of their original value..
I also thought it would be nice if there were levels of damage to items.. both you find and on your ship.. say like 5.. at level 5, its scrap metal.. where as level 1 it might misfire.. or have problems overheating.. or a reactor might have be more inefficient with fuel use.. where a really high level of damage may leak like a sieve and barely get you to your destination.
lastly.. it think it would be kewl to be able to install damaged weapons.. even with drawbacks, it might be better than what I am using.
refurbished

Discounted IM90 that overheats a bit at the cost of a omniparticle. I like this concept but I think it adds some balance issues too. How much better is say a level 2 or 3 damaged (medium damage) level 10 shield than a level 7 shield of the same price (but new and undamaged)? I guess it does add tons of variety to what you can sport.

also.. it would solve to some degree.. that problem with money.. as far as items go.
