I have in mind the building of a used ship store in which players could stop by, dock, and be able to view every ship in Transcendence that is listed in either the "extensions" or "resources" folder. The player could view all of the specs, as well as the picture of each ship, and then choose to buy the ship, with financing available. Financing would include the value of the current ship of the player together with all devices and cargo. The player could negotiate the deal, and have all cargo transferred to the new ship; as well as having whatever devices from the old ship that was not used in the trade, installed on the new ship either as part of the deal, or for an additional fee. Dvlenk9 has excellent station bitmaps and bitmasks of stations on his site that could be used for the station's look. Now I am only a novice modder, so tell me what you think of the idea.

the idea is good, however ship swapping is not possible. Yet.
It has been a highly requested feature from... always.
However a station where you can hire wingmens or find pilgrims that will follow you to the center of the galaxy with their ships it's interesting
More varieties of autons, as demonstrated by the autons extended mod by DOSBox-gamer, are also highly requested.

Hello digdug, and thanks for replying. Why is exchanging ships not possible?
I figure that Transcendence must have a code in it such as "<!-- Ship Selection Screen --> that one could use along with that bit of code that allows all of your devices to be fransferred to your ship in the event that you were destroyed while insured. I have not oung the ship selection screen code yet, but it must be there in somewhere.
As for hiring wingman: remember the mod on Xelerus called "Communications Array?" FAD created it to give you the ability to hire wingmen to journey with you to the core, provided you were willing to pay a hefty fee. Now if some of that code were rewritten and incorporated into the Commonwealth Station's table, one might be able to view the different ships available for hire just as you would view an item, together with the cost of employment. Then after you have made your choice, the station could emit the ships using the same method as the CSC carriers do when they assign wingmen to you for a misssion. Perhaps there could also be a bit of code written into the com array that would allow you to hire these ships for specific missions of your own. What think you of this, and please tell me why my former question is not possible.

You have much to learn, young modder.
Allthough much of Transcendence is in the XML, parts of it, such as the ship selection screen are in the transcendence executable, built in to the game.
Ship exchangin is simply not possible from the XML, because George won't add it.

[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad

True shilcote, but that does not mean that George might not release it to us if we ask politely and with good reason.
Hey, we're on at the same time.
I'm not saying that the game will never have ship changing capabilities, but it certianly does not now. It has been tried many times, all withour success. I think George wants to continue the story before he adds any more to the engine (He should make me a story consultant). Then, after he finishes post-heretic, he will probably find a way to allow us to change ships mid-game.

Yes, shilcote, we are on at the same time. I usually get online from 10am-2pm. I appreciate your post; I am in the process of asking George to view this thread, and release the needed code. He may or may not; that is his choice as creator of this game; but when he sees what we have in mind, he may know of alternate ways to accomplish this which we have yet to realize. Anyhow it's worth a shot.

Good Idea, Dalva; mabey there could be a way to dry dock it at the (what else?) Commonwealth Dry Dock, for a fee.
