I'm not sure what's going on with this, but I never see any cargo hold increase after installing a cargo expansion-save for the 1 ton the cargo expansion itself weighs.
Also, is the smuggler cargo expansion just to block scanners or is it supposed to increase the hold as well? And, how much of an increase is expected per expansion kit?

The standard cargo hold expansion does nothing for the freighter. The smugglers hold adds no extra for the freighter, but does let you bring illegals to commonwealth/corporate stations

The ordinary cargo hold adds 100 cargo space, but each of the three starting ships have a maximum amount of cargo hold space they can have, so it's not actually increased by 100. The smugglers hold increases the amount of cargo hold space by 50, but it also offers the obvious effect.

Sounds logical, thanks! So when using a small modship, you can mod-increase the maxcargohold to accommodate the larger expansions. But if using one of the three starting ships, may not show an increase at all when installing a standard expansion.
Me thinks the expansion info should state which starting ship(s) will not be increased by the expansion. That's a lot of credits to be spending on an expansion early in the game, to find out it didn't increase at all.

I believe all three starting ships are expanded, though the freighter does not expand very much (about 10 or something like that)
