I think it'd be good to implement a primary weapon ammo switch similar to launchers.
Maybe have "Q" switch primary weapon ammo in the same manner that "Tab" switches launcher ammo. I know there are no weapons that currently use more than one type of ammo, but it'd open up the game to have more variation.
(Trying to make a rail gun turret as a primary weapon that can fire a variety of ammo with different strengths and weaknesses.)
P.S. I also concur that the down arrow should slow the ship.

You could fake it with <OnFireWeapon> and a dockscreen to choose the ammo. Not great for use in the middle of a fight.

I'm suggesting this for several reasons.
1. It's quite practical for a primary weapon to have multiple types of ammo. A handgun for example can have hollow-point, plain, or umm... well there's several types of ammo that work with the same gun.
2. It just expands the possibilities of the game.
3. I want this.
7. It would offer more for modders
16. Offering more versatility for damage-types will be balanced out by ammo weight management.
and finally, it would be fun.
Therefore, I still suggest that it would be awesome to have primary weapons that have the same ammo-changing ability that launchers have.
Prophet, I could probably fake it with ammo boxes that can be "U"sed the same way that longzhu are used with a quianglong archcannon, but I'd hate to push buttons that way in the middle of a firefight and lose a bit of ammo in the change as well.
I think "q" key would be best because it's near the weapon shift button "w". Also, if you had three primary weapons, and two of those had two types of ammo, it'd take five presses of the "w" key to cycle through all the weapons.
