I finally found and destroyed enough sung to befriend the huari and eagerly accepted a 'destroy sung convoy' mission, forgetting that I was in a binary system. As soon as the dockscreen closed I checked my target.... they were over 6000 ls away! When I made it out to them, I checked the map, and zoomed out completely I could not see anything, not even an orbit line.

Thankfully, I had a modified jumpdrive that has very fast recharge and maintains your current speed (mine was 35 at the time) so it only took me about 2 minutes to get out there, but a stock playership would have likely run out of fuel long before they caught sight of the convoy.

I feel this is not so much a bug with the mission spawn code as it is an unfortunate side effect of the binary systems. As a rule, I try to never take missions from any station in a binary system for this reason.

I think binary systems do need a bit of a tweak so they aren't so horrific in mid-game (all my midgame binaries seem to have an abundance of enemies and a lack of friendlies). Even just a LITTLE BIT SMALLER would be nice...
My first mod, mostly done, still balance testing.

I think slower computers can get overwhelmed by binary systems.

I have a 1.8Ghz AMD Sempron with an integrated 16mb video card and half gig ram (WinXP SP2) and the first time I ever encountered a binary system, my processor boosted up to 100% usage and stayed there, overheating my laptop. I swept through the system a minute at a time with breaks to let my computer cool down and found that nearly every planet had a dwarg fleet or two around it. I've noticed since then that the number of ships in a system affect the amount of processing power used while in that system.

I'm definitely not complaining or saying that people with better computers should suffer for my benefit (they should ((I'm just joking)) ), but that type of RNG luck turns the game into an exercise of routine and frustration instead of exploration and fun.

PS.

Would it be possible to have stations detect the nearest star, then spawn missions within x light seconds of that star or spawn missions within x light seconds of itself?

I'm thinking about the current fortress / superfreighter missions, which always spawn the freighter within a circle around the fortress.

How do you maintain the current speed Prophet? :?:

It's one of my modded jumpdrives ( I have a few  )
That one maintains your speed so if you activate at top speed you materialize moving top speed.
I have another that will move you next to your target (assuming you have something targeted)

I made them for testing because I got tired of trying to catch up with fast NPCs and moving really far distances when you have to accelerate after each jump...
