Hello all,
I've been playing Transcendence for a few months on and off...never made it through the game due to my impatience and dislike of backtracking. Recently, the game has started lagging - music (winamp) would crackle and pop in the background, the ship would skip around the screen...getting worse with time.
A few days ago, the game started hard freezing my system before I even got to the loading screen! Just a few minutes ago, I tried to play a .flv video and the computer did the whole hard freeze thing again. I noticed the similarity and reset all my codec settings (K-Lite Codec Pack) to default and everything appears to be working correctly now. No lagging, videos play fine, etc.
I'm curious as to what component of the codec pack may have caused this issue? It was frustrating me to the point of actually preparing to reinstall windows when I found the solution. Actually, I was going through video files to find out what needed saving and what could be trashed when I stumbled across the solution. Talk about last minute!
I hope this helps anyone who is experiencing the same issues. Perhaps we could add it to the troubleshooting FAQ (if any)?
More lagging...fixed, but how to prevent it?

Hi mjak,
welcome to Transcendence Forums
well, Transcendence is a game that on most modern computer runs smoothly without problems. If you have slowdowns (and it seems that are not caused by the game itself), we can only suggest you to do some little maintenance to your computer:
HiJack This!

Spybot Search&Destroy

An Antivirus, I like AVG

switch to the combined community codec pack, it's much better

clean your registry and your temp files:

use any browser but Internet Explorer 7. Update to 8 as soon as possible, or better, don't use internet explorer. It's always the same story, but at the end it's the most attacked browser by hackers, so it's safer not to use it right now.
if you like winamp, and you don't care about recent winamp 5+ skins, or silly graphics, download winamp 2.91, it's fully compatible with all the most recent plugins and it's the fastest winamp. Starting from winamp 3+, the software is much slower.

crackling a popping music with winamp can be caused by the DirectSound module, try to change the Output plugin in preferences to waveOut instead of DirectSound. I read somewhere (don't remember right now...) that x64 versions of DirectX has major differences that can cause compatibility problems.
in the end, if I have to guess, I think you have some nasty spyware in background eating away your resources and slowing everything down.
