an interesting idea came up on irc.

Have categories for the number of slot multiplier an given item would take on a given ship.

For example you could have a ship that doesn't handle alien weapons well so you would say

<SlotMulitplier criteria="w +alien;" value="150">

where the value is 100 times the number you want to multiply by. So alien weapons would need 1.5 times the number of slots.
A given item would only get one slot multiplier.

This would work better with a 10X slot system where ships have 10 times the number of slots so you would get less rounding errors. It would also would be helpful to have somewhere to show how many slots are filled on a dockscreen somewhere.
