Being omniscient and a scientist is kind of an oxymoron. A scientist tries to discover new think, but if he is omniscient he knows everything. Being all powerful also take a lot of the fun being out of the scientist.

Personally I have thought of Domina as being a very powerful entity, not some sort of an all knowing, all powerful god.

PS: We have done a great job of derailing this thread have we not?

Ok, back to the subject then...

So, new ships will be present at the start of Part 2, but how will the transition work? will you be changing ships throughout part 2? And when part 3 comes?

I would like to see some new starting ships, and some you can only get after getting to part 2. As for part three I don't think there is a need to jump that far ahead yet.

Comments on ship balance:

Sapphire is terrible in the beginning with its starting equipment. The credit advantage does not make up for the goodies the other two ships get. However, once this handicap is overcome, it plays like a slower Wolfen until it gets an enhanced Titan drive. Once it gets that, it becomes a faster Wolfen that can do nearly everything the Wolfen can and more, unless you want four weapons or armor heavier than 6 tons. Personally, I use only two or three weapons and stick to light armor so I can carry more (or equip heavier devices or weapons) before getting overburdened.

EI500 starts with good equipment. I will start scum for the targeting ROM, and if I feel like a munchkin at the time, regenerating nanos too (to sell for cash, then buy back later once I get endgame armor). EI500 can easily start with more cash than the Sapphire just by selling unnecessary consumables and starting with a free 25MW reactor. I love the cargo space it has, though I still envy the cargo space the other EI freighters have. Although it is slow and turning is a pain (though still decent), nothing seems able to slow it down even more. The greatest annoyance is the two weapon limit. The only time I want to stick with two weapons is endgame with enhanced IM90 and IFC.

Wolfen also starts with good equipment. It also has decent speed (relative to enemy ships, the other two starting ships are just slow). By midgame though, I start to envy the Sapphire's slot flexibility and extra cargo space (with or without expansion). I would rather have seven all-purpose slots (if the ship is fast) than the Wolfen's eight slot, four non-weapon slot limit. Sure, I can equip heavier armor than the Sapphire, but that just means I get weighed down even easier, or I cannot equip heavy weapons (e.g., IM90 or anything that uses ammo or missiles) or heavy shields (like the Kaidun) without getting overburdened. Once the Sapphire or Wolfen get overburdened, they turn into inferior EI500 ships. That is another thing, equipment upgrades get heavier as the game progresses.

Now if there were useful high level weapons that used two (or more) slots, I might have a reason to play the Wolfen instead of the Sapphire.

As for transcending into godhood, I would do it so no mortal could overpower me if they tried.

Heh, useful late-game 2-slots.

Try my rebalanced ares plasma cannon. Worth. every. slot. :D
It makes the phoboses a little bit more of a challenge too, but they are definitely still beatable. Most of the changes impact only the player though.

More playerships is always nice, if only for the added graphical diversity.

Personally, I think their should be a change-over period, when the player starts part 2. They can keep their old ship, with it's old stuff, or they can throw it all away and jump into a different ship, with weaponary/shields etc at around level IX (most players would beat the Iocrym boss at ~X levels).

Same thing with part 3 -- essentially, the player should be allowed the oppurtunity to finish the entire game in the original craft, or to change crafts at the beginning of Part 2 and beginning of Part 3.

Basically:
  • *Part 1 -- Choose one of three ships
*Part 2 -- Keep old ship, or choose one of three New ships
*Part 3 -- Keep old ship from P1, old ship from P2 or choose New ship
