I was just playing the game before and not paying much attention (trying to keep an eye on the forums) and accidentally bought two NAMI missile launchers without thinking.

This raised two issues. First of all, because I bought 2, i didn't get the prompt to install the weapon, thus I went off into battle only to realise I didn't have any launcher installed at all.

Secondly, the game should know that you will never use more than one unit of a weapon. There is no point in buying two identical Dual Laser Cannons or two NAMI launchers, unless you are going to sell them (which is valid).

However, just like there is the "would you like to install this as well" prompt, there should be a prompt when buying two (or more) identical weapons in one transaction that says:

Code: Select all

"Whoa kid, you going to fight a war or something there? You sure you want to buy % of those?"
At which point, the player (assumign they have made a mistake) can cancel and re buy the correct number, or say yes if they wanted to go sell them.

This cannot be done for anything other than shields, weapons and launchers -- obviously you always want more than one of anything else such as missiles, fuel rods etc.

Isn't the seller asking you how many you would buy enough reason to say that you're buying more than one?
Encrypting messages into optical arrays, one cube at a time...

E5DCM-I921G-7R1E3 - A beta code for some game. Might want to ask me back at it's original site for the correct one though. Better be fast, not that patient here.

I'll be observing from afar.

After studying the DS code a bit, it seems clear that you somehow must have explicitly purchesed two of the weapons. That is, you typed 'B' over the item, entered '2' (somehow), and then 'B' again.

Are you saying that it should not let you enter 2 there?

IT also does not let you buy anything higher then what you already own, and accidentally I have given away all my items beause I hit a number to high.

Umm, what are you talking about. This concerns the "Buy" screen, not the "Sell" or "Jettison" or any other screen.

It's also not strictly true for weapons that multiple copies are useless. Switching between multiple capacitor or heat counter weapons can be a viable configuration, especially the Ares Lightning Turret.

Yep. I was being too quick and not paying attention.. I was selecting the NAMI missile launcher in the store (two were stocked), so when I pressed "B", the dockscreen automatically displayed "2" as the default amount I wanted to buy....and I pressed "ENTER", because I was being a bit careless.

Thus, I bought one extra launcher, missed the oppurtunity to "buy and install" and made a 500 credit loss selling back the unwanted NAMI launcher.

Should I have paid more attention, or should the dockscreen automatically select only one of a stockpile of weapons, becasue you will never want to buy more than one weapon?

OK, that might be a valid point... I would say, what is worth discussing, is if the screen should by default select only one as the starting amount.

On the other hand, it could be said that the fault was you not being attentive. That is a very hard thing to program against, and seldom leads to good games.

That said, I think i would lean towards the default amount being one, for all items. Making a difference based on type seems silly, and would lead to more confusion.

Also, at this point most ppl have a routine when it comes to buying. Modifying that means changing something fundaamental in the game for all those ppl.

I'd agree with the routine, it occasionally happens but you just need to slow down and then it works out well.
