I feel this improvement will make a large difference in the game, especially an RTS adventure.

Specific use case: tech tree

Having a tech tree is important to the RTS style gameplay and a graphical representation is much simpler to understand and interact with than layers of nested dockscreens.

Proposed function:
(cnvDrawButton x y imageDesc func [screen] [ID]) - of course the difficulty is in recognizing the mouse location and click event

Yes definitely. It would provide another interaction in the dockscreen as well, instead of having to just press buttons.
Another similar improvement I would like for an RTS is to be able to click and select ships using the map, and tell them where to go and attack (for starters).
