Note: I've recently been reading through old topics on the UTF, and here's some nice ideas that were either ignored or weren't really looked at much (or weren't possible at the time, etc.). There's also a few of my own, inspired by what I've read.

1) Speed and direction matching - When doing escort missions (Korolev and superfreighter mainly), I've often found that I want to match the speed and direction (attitude?) of the ship I'm escorting.
What I'm suggesting is a command that can be found either through targeting + currently unused button ([K]? [L]?)k, or through the [Q] command ([Q] + [F]ollow ship).
This feature could either come through with the current Targeting ROM, or possibly a new "Escort ROM", or it could be something you begin with.

2) Thruster control - Controlling how much your thrusters fire when press forward would be a nice feature to have - press a key (F9? F10), and it changes how much you thrust forward (like gears on a car or bicycle).
This wouldn't really add much gameplay-wise (I can't really think how this would be much use), but it would add more realism.

3) Trafalgar pub additions - Not much currently happens at the trafalgar pub, aside from the occasional thing on the map being added, and getting to talk to people.
Maybe you can find drunk people, and they offer you things at low prices ("Hey, anybody wanna buy...*hick*...buy a Shuriken for 200 credits?"). You also be offered things such as ROMs ("Nice talkin' to ya. Here's a system map ROM, if you want it.").

4) Tinker addition - If you give the tickers three of a damaged item, they can salvage parts and give you an undamaged one.

5) New ROM - How about a "Cyber protection ROM" that decreases the chance of being affected by Cyberattacks? Maybe add whatever the protection values is by one or two?

6) attle damage - If your shield goes down, and your hull starts taking damage, wouldn't it make sense for stuff to occasionally be damaged? Maybe items in your cargo hold are damaged or even destroyed.

7) Damaged Transpace Jumpdrive - I think that if your Transpace Jumpdrive ever gets damaged, it has a chance of gating either farther, or less, or in different directions, etc.

7) Alien technology difficulties - I think that whenever you are using alien technology, there is a chance (of only a few percent) that something might go wrong with it (with weapons you can have misfires or it might temporarily jam, and with drives it might move you a little when you don't want to, etc.). It is alien technology, after all, and it probably won't correctly integrate with our computer systems.

8) Eridani addition - I think the starting system should have a bit more in it. Maybe a couple more pirate bases, and/or a few other enemies, partly so new players find more variety in the enemies, and partly so there's more battle experience to be found in the first system.

9) Mercenary station - A similar idea to the Bounty Hunters mod on the UTF. You can dock here, refuel, repair armor, etc. The main difference is that you can hire wingmen! (the stronger the wingman, the higher the price). You could let players either choose from a list like in most shops, or you could do it in a tech-tree sort of way (I don't know the correct term - what I mean is something like this = "What sort of price range for a wingman are you in?" -> enter two amounts (between one price and another) -> "Would you like a light, fast ship, or a slow, heavy and highly armed ship?" (there would probably be other options) -> choose -> "What type of weapons would you like?" -> choose from a list such as laser, kinetic, particle, etc. (depending on where you are in the game) or a list like missile, ammo, hard (recoilless-type weapons), beam -> etc. (You ge the general idea, don't you?
Something like this would greatly increase variety later in the game.

10) Patcher arm addition - You can try and use patcher arms to repair damaged items. Something like "The patcher arm has successfully repaired the now-humming weapon/shield/device, etc," or "The patcher arm has not managed to repair the item/device."
I suppose you could always make a new device for this instead of using the patcher arm.
Another idea is Commonwealth Dry Docks (and probably other stations) having the ability to repair certain levels of stuff.

I'll have post more ideas later today.

This is a great idea. I spend a lot of the time on those missions trying to apply my engines and brakes in order to get to just the target's speed, only to have to adjust it again after each random encounter. :x

that would be good. It would make matching the speeds on the Korolev missions easier, too!

10) Patcher arm addition - You can try and use patcher arms to repair damaged items.
Also a good idea. I often find some really good thing that I want to use, only it's damaged!

Another idea in the same direction, is why not have the ability to repair some of your stuff yourself! have a repair skill, and a chance to either repair something or completely destroy it, and possibly a chance to fry yourself while trying to repair it

Oh... how cheap. Use invoke sustain while traveling ontop of the ship at the same speed. I don't see the point. Also...there could be this glitch where you use that option, and it lets u travel the same speed as a Hornet Battlepod.

Maybe make the thrusters do damage? I can't imagine thrust fire not doing damage...maybe weak damage...?

Then maybe you can have fights with people... "Hey...*burps* you wanna mess with me? Yeah you!*points at random direction* *randomly pints at you* etc... XXX was killed in a bar by drunk people. Ha ha!
Yugimotomanager wrote:4) Tinker addition - If you give the tickers three of a damaged item, they can salvage parts and give you an undamaged one.
You mean with every item? I don't think 3 is enough, however. If you have 3 armour with 1 hp...i don't think it's enough. Also, the higher the level, the more the price. It could be useful...

Ohh! For all that time I have tried to make a Cyberdefending shield... it would be good to have one ingame! It might be possible to mod it... maybe add a

Code: Select all

Cyberdefense=           12
tag?

That is VERY annoying! Let's just assume that all the armour is surrounding the cargo... so it's like, beside the reactor. I can't bear for such collector's items(holocal) to be damaged...(lazarus...damaged? NOOO!)
Yugimotomanager wrote:7) Damaged Transpace Jumpdrive - I think that if your Transpace Jumpdrive ever gets damaged, it has a chance of gating either farther, or less, or in different directions, etc.
Or transports you to some different universe...or transports you the herectic. Ha ha! Though I do agree that damaged items should have a negative effect.

Alien probably means Unidentified. Maybe for like...certain levels it's considered...Alien...where you need a computer enhancement from the ringers?

I do agree. When I first started playing...i didn't know what a stargate was used for. I just kept on fighting. It was really boring. Then....i found out what gates were...and was totally unprepared for those battlepods.

Slow, and heavy? That's pointless! But I do get the idea(and like it...I will try modding that!).

Yes. Too true. I can have energy weapons repaired...but I also have trouble telling which is an energy item. I also want my kilotons to be repaired...please! hmm...maybe you can make it so you force the commonwealth to install damaged items? "installing this item might damage your ship. Do you wish to continue? " Sure!
