Why can't we trade with Ferians?

Why can't we when we are always in dire need of higher level ore to trade with the Ringers & Teratons? Can I propose a barter system then? For example a ton of pteracnium ore to 10 tons of plasteel armor for building ferian miners and warriors, a ton of xenotite to 20 tons of hydrocarbons, or other chemicals for starters?

But we do trade with them! We provide hot plasma death and they kindly reward us with their pinata-fulls of goodies
