I don't use ammo weapons in the game for one reason - the total ammunition in the game is limited. One way to fix this would have been to introduce restocking in stations. But George says he won't be implementing that in the next version. That's fine with me. So I've been thinking of other alternatives. In my opinion, the best way would be to put a "Replenish ammunition" option at stations. I can think of three ways to do this without disturbing the game's balance.

1.
The simplest method would be to have the station check your cargo hold for ammunition of the required type and to sell the ammo only if the number of rounds is below a certain threshold.
For example you have an Akan cannon installed on your ship. Let the threshold for the Akan be 100. You have 60 shells in your cargo hold. If you use the Replenish ammo option, the station would offer to sell a maximum of 40 rounds. If you have 120 rounds in your cargo hold, the station would not sell any.

2.
The second method would be to implement a system like the one used for fuel. Each ammo weapon would have a particular magazine capacity. The ammo in the magazine has to be replenished manually from your cargo hold. A station would sell you ammo only if your magazine does not have the maximum rounds it can carry. Additional rounds can be purchased from the buy screen and can be stored in the cargo hold. Uninstalling the weapon will cause the shells in the gun to appear in your cargo hold.
Take the Akan example again. Let the Akan have a magazine capacity of 100. If you deplete the Akan's magazine, you can either reload using shells from your cargo hold or by using the Replenish option in stations. If your Akan's magazine is full and you want to carry extras, the only way to do this would be purchase some from the buy screen.

3.
Some people may not like the idea of having to reload weapons. So, here's a workaround. Like in the previous method, each weapon will have a magazine capacity and additional rounds are stored in the cargo hold. However, the game automatically keeps the magazine full by transferring rounds from the cargo hold every time you fire. This means the shells in your cargo hold will run out before those in the gun. Stations will offer to replenish you ammo only if your magazine is not full. This way you can't hoard the ammunition using the replenish option as you will have to use up most of your ammunition first.

Idea of magazines for weapons is great, but I have another solution - you byu ONLY magazines, not rounds - they are stored in mags. Reloading of mags are automatic, but take some time.
Mags are only for roud-based wepons, not for launchers - missiles.
And repenising is only for mags. Normal stations have very limited number of mags with very slow restocing (via ships) . Good numbers can be found in weapons dealers with good restocing (via ships) and finaly on ammo factories (new station type) with high numbers (and chep prices), restocing via time (producig). And in this station you can upgrade missiles (from white strelka to red strelka..etc).
Of course - every station have limited max. amount of mags/missiles/goods...etc. based on its type.
My English, may be poor, but better than yours Czechs.

Do you chalenge me ? But be nice :-)) http://czert1938.mybrute.com

I think some weapons should have magazines, others should have a "hopper system, that can simply have as much ammo as you put in it from the hold, and ammo from the hold would not be used unless you add it to the weapon.
