I was fighting against a couple of Ventari destroyers, got hit one too many times and my class III shield is damaged.
After destroying the destroyers (yeah, after that I used Domina strengthen instead of sustain) I tried to use a shield enhancement ROM in hand, but nothing happened except the unfamiliar message saying 'No binding for symbol: cursor'.
After that I confirmed the shield generator haven't lost its enhancement and damaged nevertheless.
I suspect that this is not an intended behavior.
By the way, it's ok with the damaged shield.
I thought I should upgrade it to something more reliable anyway!
EDIT: Oh, and I checked another one; using the sphere did repair the shield.
I haven't tried using the defective ShieldPower cube and then enhancing.
enhanced AND damaged shields?
WAHT? Class III after St.K's? I go for a yoroi 100 or 500 or a mammoth welll before St.K's. If I can't find any of them, then I use a solon. And you often find them lying about at armor dealers early on. Hell, you can find them in Eridani if you are lucky enough. A bit of careful trading and korolov missions and you'll have enough money. Why wouldn't you buy them? I don't use anything below level V after St.Ks except fir double titanium barricades because of their insane HP with nanos (120)
I'm not saying don't upgrade if you get the chance, but if you don't get the chance...
I spend most of my money on weapons and I buy drive upgrades ASAP. Hit hard enough and run away fast enough and you don't need to take a beating.
I alsodon't generally stick around in systems where all enemy stations are destroyed; I just head to the next (I rarely ever stay to farm for money) I often make it to St. K's on a Class II (I generally upgrade to at least a III if I decide to clear Charon, but it's possible with a Class II, just use hit and run).
If you use hit and run tactics and stay away from earth slavers and worldships, you can get pretty far on a class III.

heh I tend to do the opposite of Oddbob with the exception of I also don't farm.
I buy the best shields available first and make due with what weapons I find lying around. I do this because it is much easier to find weapons than it is to find shields.

Crying is not a proper retort!

Yup, that definitely looks like a bug. Thank you!Burzmali wrote:In the enhancement rom, the line:

Oh, now I realized I reported two separate things.
The other one I didn't think of now look fixed (yeah, two heads are definetely better than one!), but actually I was thinking chiefly that the behavior of the ion disruptor lacked consistency here, as you can probably guess it from the subject on this thread; I know that if it hits a weapon and the weapon is enhanced already, it blast off of its enhancement, rather than breaking it instantly. And using the defective weapon enhancement ROM and the defective ShieldPower mnemonic cube on enhanced items erase their enhancement too.
However, in this occasion the "damaged" tag and the "+20HP" tag did co-exist and I felt this is somewhat strange.
...Or maybe this is intended?
Now I come to think of it, it could be even more frustrating if it blows up +100%HP enhancement with diamond field crystals in a single hit. Though I don't really think that a Ventari destroyer is able to land a hit on a ship with such a powerful shield...

I think this is a bug. It is certainly inconsistent with weapons. I think I can fix this for 0.98. Thank you!darksider wrote:However, in this occasion the "damaged" tag and the "+20HP" tag did co-exist and I felt this is somewhat strange.

But what if I get lucky find 10 Diamond Etherium crystals and I use them on a Mammoth 100. Then the silly Ventari comes by and damages my shield. Then wouldn't I lose the upgrades of all TEN field crystals? Couldn't you make it so that only the last enhancement will be lost (i.e. in this case only the upgrade provided by the tenth field crystal will be lost)
EDIT :-
I didn't read

It would be possible if your shield was already weakened by another encounter or if you switched it off to save fuel.darksider wrote:Now I come to think of it, it could be even more frustrating if it blows up +100%HP enhancement with diamond field crystals in a single hit. I'm curious about this. Is it possible that the error may have been caused due to the "Domina strengthen" effect still being in effect while trying to use the enhancement ROM on the shield?george moromisato wrote:Yup, that definitely looks like a bug. I've never tried that to be sure whether it would cause an error or not.
