What would be interesting would be have the ability to start out later in the game with devices appropriate to that system. Such as starting in the arena system with a random loadout. This would allow the earlier systems to be made much easier for newer people so they can have an easier time playing but still be fun for people who know the game not having to snore through the early systems.

Yeah, maybe if you clear out a system, you'd be allowed to start in that system. It's like in HL2. Once you go through a level, you have the option of starting a new game from that level. I suppose that could be implemented here. But isn't transcendence supposed to be played without dying and resurrecting? Most ascii roguelikes have a save system so that you don't have any such thing as a continue option after you die. You are meant to finish the game without dying. You are not supposed to resurrect. How would you keep that aspect up if you implement this?

this game is mean to be replayed and it would make it more fun for everyone if we could get to the parts we like right away. You don't get to choose what you start with with an advanced start (other than ship) it would be random.

I think St. K would be the latest you would be able to start in.
Think of it this way it would be like a hard mode. You start with things you might not get on your own without the chance of getting lucky so it would be harder. But you have the advantage of allowing the earlier system to be made easier for newer player so they can get used to the game.

just a thought advanced start shouldn't allow to to go back to preserve the difficultly of not having all those credits.

Next version (0.98) it will be possible to set a starting point on a modded player ship. In other words, you can create a mod so that if the player chooses that mod, the game will start in any system you choose.

For now, you can only start in one of the existing systems (e.g., St. K's) but in the future I can imagine a mod that creates a new system to start in.

very cool. Will the staring system be stated by its node?
Will there be a way to have random devices or at least run a function just after the player ship is created (it would need to be attached to the ship due to you want to have it only happen if they have that ship)? Can you disable gates? I know you can enable a not running gate but never tried disabling a gate.

just thought of something else this would allow for custom starting systems. (ie instead of a commonwealth dominated one you could have a black market dominated one) the only problem is this system isn't normally in the game so how do you make the gates work (sometimes a certain gate goes to one system and sometimes to another depending on your starting position)

I suppose this could develop into every modder making their own version of the entire game....:P

Yeah.... if you are allowed to define all the systems, that would open up lots of options for scenario creation......

I'd love to be able to add systems to the extensions, like adding more rigel/point juno style systems for our mods.

I don't really believe too much should be added yet - lets keep the game in the hands of the developer for now.

The game IS in the hands of the developer. But if we are alloewed to add custom systems as mods instead of having to edit the xml, then we'd get the chance to make custom scenarios, instead of the usual free-play game which we now play. Its like Random Map vs Pre-made Scenario. It opens up a lot of options for modding.

Hmm.... I was thinking of a mod recreating the Earth-Styris war from the poit of view of a single battleship. Scenario would consist of a string of missions with different results for success and loss. Or something on those lines.

But now that you actually bring it up, putting hordes of ships and making them fight would work just fine. :P I gotta think of simple thing first.....
