Okay, it is very frustrating to play a game for a long time and collect a lot of items and then start a new game by mistake. This has happenend to me more than once as I start many new games but I don't play all of them all the way through. I never resurrect and I don't make backups. Its painful to lose many hours of gameplay just because of a couple of unintended clicks. So, I'd like it if you could have many games in progress. Each game would have its own save file. The current save/resurrect system would still be applicable. This would also mean you would have a load screen but there would be no save screen.

How do you manage to accidentally start a new game, now that the "You already have a savegame. Are you sure you want to start a new game? Your old savegame will be deleted" (or whatever) has been added? You'd need to be clumsy enough to both press New Game and click "Yes" to do that.

Anyways, I believe that each time the game saves it makes a new save file - probably in a Savegames folder.

I start a lot of new games in quick succession. As soon as I start a new game, I scout the first system or two and see if I can find any good items like a Yoroi or a Mammoth. Also, I start a lot of new games when testing mods as I keep making minor changes and reopen Transcendence to see how the changes are. Usually, I quit a game by pressiing Esc-2, i.e. Save and Exit as the selfdestruct option has a small time delay after you die and I find it annoying to wait. When you do this repeatedly, you'll find yourself unconsciously clicking past the warning screen.

And it doesn't store multiple save files. And there is no savegame folder. It stores save files in the root folder of transcendence. You can force it to do so by using multiple names but I generally don't do that.

This probably isn't EXACTLY what you're looking for, but try this. Create a savegame folder, and within it subfolders for each game you want to keep saved individually. Start a game, if you like it save and quit. Copy that save file into one of the subfolders in the savegame folder. Repead until you have enough games going at once to make you happy. When you want to play one, make sure you have the most current one saved, then overwrite the save in the root directory with the one you want to play. It's not automatic, but it has the same effect.

That's what I do. For each different .sav, I put a player.sav1 with lots of numbers for all my previous saves and then just go back to them later. Lately I just don't bother with it anymore. If I messed up, I'll just start from the beginning.

That "are you sure" window didn't use to exist. It was added because people were complaining about losing their games by a careless click. Now I said at the time that it's a psychological thing, not an "accidental click" thing:

Rarely is it a result of "whoops, I tripped, bumped the mouse and clicked "new game"". Usually it is because the player, by force of habit from start scumming or mod testing, hits the new game button when they see the main screen.

Now there are two buttons, and the player when loading the first system a billion times to test a mod or find good equipment clicks those two buttons by force of habit whenever they see the main screen, because the number of times the find a game they like and are saving instead of starting over (or in the case of the mod tester, play a real game) is much less than the number of times that they are starting new games.

Besides, how can you fix it?

"Are you sure you would like ot start a new game?"
"yes."
"are you SURE that you are sure?

The solution: Don't start scum. It's cheating. Use a different name for mod tests. You can have as many names as you want.

I'm maintaining two transcendence folders right now. Trans097a for the game and TransTest for testing. I have two shortcuts on my desktop. Also, I use the decompiled xmls and the resources folder instead of the tdb file in the test folder. But i thought it would be better if the game saved multiple files by default. i.e. if you start a new game, the game would create a new save file. The old save file would still be there and can be loaded whenever you want through a load screen. The continue option would continue your most recent game.

You do know that by clicking on your captain's name you can change it and have as many games running as you want with one install? I thought you knew that in my last post.

Yes, I do know. But I find this better as I frequently mess with the default xmls.
