I'm just enquiring how far off this is exactly, and how many changes there will be from the current version. Will there be any particularly significant developments, or is the current version a nearly complete version?

More Black Market missions please!

Well, no one knows for sure (except maybe George) but at least some post-Heretic system will probably have been added in by 1.0 (at least, I hope so).

Remember George, you don't have to add all of post-Heretic at once - add it in pieces! ;)

I think the game should be in three sections, the current Eridani-Heretic section, then a short, maybe 10-system section introducing the new races and adding in more storyline, explaining more about why you're out here, and finally giving us a few new technologies to get us prepared for the third and final part, which I believe should be roughly 20-30 system long where everything is tied up and we reach the climax where [something] happens and we win the game and become a god/dess! (Well, maybe not the god/dess part :P)

Anyway, I'm expecting at least ten more versions of the game until 1.0.

Thanks Yugi :) , guess I will have to be patient.

This wonderful game is extremely playable as it is, but I look forward to seeing future advancements

I don't believe that 1.0 will have post-heretic. I think what George's plan is, and I believe he has said this elsewhere, to make a complete game for 1.0 without post-heretic because that would take a long time get story, balance, etc.

personally I don't think post-heretic should ever be is the same game as pre-heretic. it would take to long to get to (we already have late game problems think what would happen if the late game even got longer)
It should be a separate game with some excuse to get rid of the previous stats and equipment.

I think the game could be enhanced with inclusion of stellar phenomena and interesting constructs.

Black holes.
Binary star systems.
Dyson spheres or rings.
Earth? The prospect of going backwards from Eridani would be interesting

Maybe post-Heretic would be available as a plugin to the original (current) version? Something like an expansion pack, or a big mod.
You download the "Transcendence 2: Through the Heretic's Gate" (sounds cool to me :P), make a new folder called 'Transc 2' and put it in there. Then, when you start the original game it comes up with two choices like in Starcraft, where you choose between 'Starcraft' and 'Starcraft: Brood War' (dunno if it doesn't do this in non-gold-edition versions), but instead you get 'Transcendence', with the original game's logo behind it (the one that looks like someone's navel area with the sides carved out) and 'Transcendence 2: whatever' with either the same logo or possibly a new one.

Just an idea ;)

Two things:
1) If you think you have a good idea, make a new topic about it. (though stellar phenomenae have been talked about often, try anyway).
2) Earth was obliterated, long ago.[/quote]

1) Yep, those topics have all been brought up before, and the more they are brought up, the more likely they are to be acted on
2) It was? Bummage. I had family there.

Edit: 20 posts and I'm still an "anarchist"? I thought I'd have at least reached "Libertarian" by now... :?

One option I would prefer:

Transcendence is only pre-heretic and further versions just balance updates and so on

Post-heretic would start with you placing the alien-rod into the stargate and activating it! But as you enter the gate theres some kind of malfunction because you somehow missplaced the rod (you spent your time rather with your mates than hanging out at the Gate Controll lessons ;))

After waking up you find yourself at some very(!) distant place! Most of your ship is wrecked just leaving you some fuel and some other things.

Then you have to make your way trough this foreign Galaxy figthing strange new races searching for a way back to your Galaxy

Post-post-heretic could be you finding a way back to your Galaxy but also allowing the new races to find a permanent access to the Galaxy.

And then some good ol' dog eat dog! (everyone against everyone)

Just some ideas which just came to my mind after reading this Thread ;)

Sounds a bit too much like that sci-fi show... Farscape, I think. And like the plot to game X2.

In Farscape, a pilot is testing a new ship, accidentally gets sucked into a wormhole and finds himself billions of lightyears away in a distant galaxy.

I would think that making a separate game wouldn't make much sense as long as the same engine is being used. I would think the game would just continue just like entering another system. The only difference is that your level X equipment is now more like the level I or perhaps even less useful than the level I equipment you started with.

but then how much would those be played?
I never go into the later systems anymore due to I like playing from the beginning and ramping up the difficulty right there would be unfair to the people who play without resurrections.

I was more thinking like the ToEF in ADOM. A very hard place halfway through. There's a lot you can do to prepare, but you will be hard pressed any way you go. And I am one of those people that play without resurrections.
