Hi all,
I'm TobiusBM and after remembering about this game a week ago (after not playing for 4 years) I have spent the entire week playing through a few times and noting down everything I felt was missing or needed expanding upon.
Please Remember: I have only just got back into the game so I may be missing things - what I suggest might already be implemented in one way or another that I am not aware of or may deliberately not be in the game for balancing or because it does not fit with the story aspect of the game.

Ships in trouble can send out a mayday which nearby ships and stations will receive. Some independent ships will go to their aid or stations may send a ship of their own. You, as the player, can help them too - if you can get the ship and/or any injured persons back to a station you will be rewarded in credits or cargo

I hope you like some of the ideas I have suggested.
Please leave your opinions on my ideas and suggest your own ways of implementing the features - I would love to hear what you think.

Didn't really do my idea justice in my first post.

Mayday situations would include:

* Ship is attacked = people injured
In this case the ship would have been attacked but not destroyed and the attackers either left or were destroyed - one or more of the people onboard where injured, these need taking to a friendly station ASAP! Also it would be cool if say their weapons officer was injured then they wouldn't be able to fire their weapons (e.g. you would basically have to escort them to safety).

* Ship is attacked/Random Device Faliure = drive damaged
In this case they have had a drive damaged by attackers, who have now left or were destroyed - either way, the ship can't fly! You will have to take the crew to a friendly station. If you have enough space they may ask you to take their cargo as well, if not they will try to get a ship at the station to retrieve it.
*Is there an in-game way of (safely - no explosions) moving a ship - this tractor beam would work: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8848 ?*

* Ship is attacked/Random Device failure - shield damaged
Either through enemy attack or random hardware malfunction the ship is now without a shield, leaving it very vulnerable - you will have to escort them to safety.

* Ran out of fuel
This is a rather simple one where you just have to lend them some fuel you are carrying, the more generous you are the more generous your reward - however, if the ship has run out of fuel they will have been sitting completely still without any sheilds or weapons - even after you give them fuel it will take them a minute to get everything started back up - during this time you will have to defend them from attack.

It is fairly safe to say that all of the mini-missions would have to spawn a few enemies in that you would have to fight off - if the ship dies you'll loose any chance of a reward and now be surrounded by enemy ships...

Tractor beam mods are possible. They can just reposition the 'towed' ship every fraction of a second and it looks like there is a beam connecting them.
But the code is difficult. As the towing ship turns the angles and distances need to be recalculated to smooth the towed ship's movement. This is beyond me. It needs someone with more of a 'maths head'. But it would be a very handy mod or feature. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later.

Keep the ideas coming, @TobiusBM, you have some good ones there.

Most code is already ingame; Only needs a bit of Copy Paste, and voila, is np ;- )
