I found a Ringer right next to an Ares shipyard. And trashed ships *everywhere*. Oh the to-a-first-approximation-humanity!

I, of course, immediately did my part to ensure no salvage went to waste.

But while rather amusing to find, this suggests that maybe these shouldn't be allowed to spawn next to one another...

Wow, that is a bug. There actually is code in the ringer stations and I think the ares as well, to prevent from from spawning next to eachother. I think that the Ares shipyards need an additional 15-20ls to theirs, because of the patrolling ships.

Hang on, I just realised- I'm still running 1.03... when did the spawn prevention come in?

IIRC, it hasn't been changed in 1.04

or maybe it has. I'll have to diff. check the two in a bit.

Its still in 1,04 - I checked

Odd, that the exclusion distances are 50 and 100 for the ringers and ares respectively. Likely traveling ships to the ringers cause the shipyard ships to chase after them, resulting in an inter-station battle?
How many LS were they apart? (100ls is about the radius of your LRS IIRC)

... if the LRS was involved it wouldn't be nearly as worrying ...

looks like a complete failure of the exclusion distance system.

Actually, I was rather surprised when the Ringer base got toasted shortly after this. I was even more surprised when the Ares base exploded a few seconds later- I didn't know anyone was actually still around to shoot it... (I was busy dodging the Phobos responsible for the *previous* explosion)

Funny..I would have thought that an Ares shipyard would have triumphaed over the ringer station...unless the thermo explosion from the Ringer shipyard destroyed the Ares shipyard in turn...? :?

I don't think I have seen anything like this before since about version 1.01...but I don't know when exactly the exclusion radius came in. Still.....FREE LOOT!

back in .99 I once saw a ringer station right next to the Ferians. This was before they were made allies, so there were hundreds of Ferian ships littering the area. I then made sure that their deaths were not in vain by selling their hard day's work the those who destroyed them

Did the ringer station have awesome loot?

*Is suddenly reminded of the time a penitent shrine popped up adjacent to a sung fortress*
That was the easiest battle ever. Just flew around a few times to get the penitents to activate their Oracus Power, causing them to destroy the sung, causing the death thermo explosion to kill the penitents XD

The loot was *already* awesome by that stage, although the ringer station certainly helped. 8-)

Ensuring the safe collection of the ringerloot certainly became an immediate priority...

Dodge the Phobos, dodge the Phobos, dodge the Pho- Oooh LOOT THE STATION! LOOT THE STATION!

(Followed by: I *really* need to get back to dodging that Phobos now- <BOOM> - Hey who blew up the *other* station?)

Do ringers get a corporate enforcer?

when transcendence positions items, its really quite random, I know there's some math and lisp that controls it but from experience I've seen some of the weirest stuff. Its part of the fun.
