[1.2 RC2] vanilla - crash-to-desktop

Dear George,

I have downloaded 1.2 RC 2 manually and it always does a crash-to-desktop right after startup.
- no mods
- Windows Vista home premium 32bit (DE)
- all versions since 0.8(?) up to 1.2 beta 4 running fine
- login to metaverse works in 1.2b4 and also seem to work in 1.2RC2
- download of file "LRL15.tdb" to folder "Collection" worked on 1.2b4 and 1.2RC2

by default, Transcendence runs in Directx mode under Vista.

Can you try to run the game using command line switches ? In particular /nodx to force the game in GDI mode.

Other suggestions I can give you to try are: try to reinstall directx or your graphics card drivers ?

Did that, and also the variation "/nodx /debug" to get into debug mode, but problem persists.

BTW: I do not think it has something to do with DirectX, as all Transcendence versions before including 1.2 beta 4 run perfectly.

BTW2: logfiles looks exactly the same:
1st try: without /nodx
2nd try: with /nodx
3rd-5th try: with /nodx /debug and trying to activate debug with [F9]after startup.
I also SEE the debug icon in the top right corner just a moment before it crashes...

When does the crash happen? Do you see the intro screen? Do you see any news?

What folder is the game in? Is it under Program Files by any chance?

Could you try deleting (or renaming) Settings.xml and try again?

I have the same error, crash to desktop right after start and debug.log says the same.

The user collection was downloaded, but when the news-download startet it crashed right away.
It is possible to prevent this crash by not logging into the multiverse.

Deleting Settings.xml does nothing.

I see the intro screen (at last very short), but I never see the news!

It is not, and never has been. (It's on "D:\Games\Trans12RC2". And it's sibbling in "D:\Games\Trans12b4" runs fine...)

Tried that before, but it did not work.

I also tried to copy the Settings.xml from my working 1.2beta4, but that did also not work.

BTW: Maybe it's the way Transcendence tries to load the news? E.g. in my firewall rules, transcendece.exe is allowed to pass (as login to multiverse seems to work), but maybe you start a new process under another name to load the news that has no rights to do so?

(I think) I also tried that, but it crashed independent of me being logged in or not in multiverse.

The first times, when I did start up the game, it crashed without me having a chance to login...

CTD without any sign of error when in the lower left part of the screen appears notification "downloading news".
Win 7 Pro, 1.1 works perfectly.
If you do not log on - you can actually start the game before download and it works fine. But then there is another minor problem: looks like if you are not logged on game uses system name as default. If it is true - it seems that it does not recognize non English characters in it (Cyrillic).

some update:

v1.2 release runs fine, no CTD any more (including Corporate Command extension).

Also update process downloading "%TranscenceHome%\Collection\LRL15.tdb" does now work.
