There are a few strategies: the barricades strategy, the exploding crates strategy, or simply, if you have enough firepower, try to blast them off before they destroy the station. (probably lot's of XM900 or a dual particle cannon, or something similar)

Also, try to put yourself in the line of fire and try to stop the missiles using your ship.

Usually using the Wolfen it's easier because of the better maneuverability.
Thank you digdug:
I will try these out. If I recall right I have a number of barricades that I keep as backup armor so I will try this out first see how it goes. Also I am going to reevaluate my firepower on my ship. If worse comes to worse I might start a new game and play with the Wolfen instead never have used it before.

Here's also a tip: Blast the Drakes first. They usually deal the most damage as they have missiles.

:(
The korolov station is made of paper now... The drakes don't even have to reach the korolov station before it blows up, the gunships will blow it up before the drakes even reach the station!

Yes. I once managed to blast the drakes with Flenser and XM900 fire.....only to have a single stray shot from a guard hit the station and blow it up after I'd taken care of all bar 2 of the gunships.

Titanium barricades? Pah. Titanium tissue-paper's what they've used to build that thing.....

Yeah I tried the titanium didn't work at all more hindered me than anything. I changed to more powerful weapons and came close but still failed. I restarted a game over the long weekend and used the wolfen but still I had little luck so far. I fear my piloting and shooting skills might be the real issue so more practice for me. Though I have come close the last few times using the wolfen so I am going to keep trying it with that game. I decided to move on with my game with the freighter and soon died w/o insurance unfortunately to a Ventuari cruiser.

But that is why I love this game the challenge of it =]

And thank you everyone for the great advice I have it applied to my wolfen game and a number of other things I have read on the forums.

Short of spamming Gems of Contrition, it's virtually impossible to save the Charon base. Emphasis on *virtually*. You *can* do it, but it's not easy by any stretch of the word.

......I wonder how EMP weapons would do there?, attack the gunships, and disable the drakes just as they reach firing distance, while trying to missile the corsairs with tinker-bought lucifers............

It isn't easy, but I wouldn't say that it is virtually impossible. The important thing is to buy the single most powerful piece of every sort of equipment pre-Charon.

The configuration I usually try for is a Wolfen with a +50% Class V, +fast dual particle weapon, and a NAMI missile launcher with lots of missiles. Also, just keep firing missiles (seriously, don't let go).

Though that still doesn't make it easy, with that configuration I've managed to save Korolov four out of the last five times I've done it.

Personally I think that the Korolov station is a perfect challenge. It has fairly little effect on the game; the rewards you get are equivalent for either path. And it is lots of fun. I can say for certain that the times when I was trying to save the Korolov station were some of the most fun I've had playing Transcendence.

Still learning here, hehe

About to enter Charon for the first time...

At the moment, I have 3x heavy ceralloy armor, and a polyceramic, not sure which shield is going to be best for Charon. Still using the monopole from way back, and obviously needs a upgrade, there is a Yoroi S500 at a armorer nearby that I've been eyeing, but I'd rather not spend 20k without doing a lil homework, heh.

Also, using a omni turbolaser, with a LC that I'm considering upgrading as well, but not a priority as it's torn up everything I've come up against so far and I don't have a ton of cash at the moment.

That polyceramic will be a hindrance. And the monopole will kill you. Get the S500 (It's a great all-round shield).

Heavy ceralloy will probably be adequate. i try to have advanced ceralloy or advanced plasteel by then, but that's only a level or so higher, and can be both expensive, and hard to find.

With tthe setup you have, you will not be able to save korolov in Charon. But so long as you are careful, you might be able to kill the charon bases (just be careful with the Fortress. It uses particle beams, which vastly outrange laser weapons). Just try and take out as many Drakes as possible as they head towards Korolov. The loot is really useful, especially in terms of missiles.

If you don't have a NAMI, I'd suggest getting one. They're extremely useful for long-range base-busting, and given the number of missile-using enemies in Charon, you should be able to find plenty of KM100s and 110s for that purpose.

(To demonstrate the NAMIs advantage: laser weapons have a maximum range of 60ls. particle beams...I think around 80ls. The KM500 tracking missile fired by the NAMI launcher has a range of 95 ls, and non-guided missiles (which are cheaper and better to use for base-busting) have slightly longer ranges). It's not as good as a lancer cannon, but it's still a much better bet than the omni turbolaser.

Get a shuriken or dual particle & get volkov (having a nami launcher with missiles is nice too); you can save charon with that loadout.

Because charon is filled with drakes, you can feel free to use the NAMI to "apply liberally" all of your KM100/110's.

Drakes don't have blast plate any more.

They're using Advanced Reactive Armor, IIRC.

It also means that Drakes lose some of their battering-ramness. Still, they're easier to kill.
