I get the principle of wanting it, but it should be tuned down a bit.
I constantly have to thrust and it gets annoying.
Am I just a brat or does anyone else feel like I do?
Inertialess drive gets on my nerves! Input anyone?

I've never used it, and I don't think it is worthwhile at all for the average person. The primary issue with the inertialess drive isn't that it is more difficult to maneuver, but that it draws a prohibitive amount of power. Since it is inertialess, you have to thrust constantly. Whereas with traditional engines, you only need to thrust until you are up to full speed, and then coast.
The only time I use it is when I install it on a mule auton using Upgradable Wingmen. It really makes it a lot easier to position the little sucker.

I... don't use it. Not that I ever even notice them
Worthless IMO

I use them when I play ships that have a really high mass - but that's only if you're using a mod.
In vanilla gameplay, they're mostly useless.

I don't like using it. It sounds fun, but when you get attacked, you'll realise that, not only does it drain a huge amount of reactor power, it also robs you of the ability to fire while flying in reverse. In a game like this, exploiting inertia to attack your pursuers or deflect shots coming at you can make a huge difference between you surviving or not.

The inertialess is not worthless but you must learn how to use it properly. The ability to nearly instantly accelerate and stop plays havoc with ships trying to shoot at long range. Using omni or tracking weapons is crucial to use this technique otherwise you're simply thrusting INTO the shots.
Pairing the inertialess with the thruster mod makes it much more useable as you can then use any weapon and simply strafe out of the path of incoming weapon fire.
The power use and consequent fuel consumption are unfortunate but are easily offset with a bussard power plant.
So, in Vanilla, yes it's nearly completely useless, but with mods and some getting use to, it is very powerful.

Turning the engine off makes you stop; the principal of an intertialess ship is that it can translocate your ship without giving it inertia, thus once it is deactivated, it will nolonger move.

exactly, inertialess is perfect for large slow freighters with omni weapons.I consider using it with an EI500 armed with an omni-weapon. If you need inertia while traveling, turn the engine off
When I play the freighter sometimes I buy it and use it in fights with IM90 and Medusa missiles (an EI500 overloaded with cargo and tons and tons of missiles) It makes so easy to dodge enemy weaponfire

And for traveling between systems you can just turn it off

It doesn't, Wolfy. You're forgetting the default thrusters. The moment the inertialess drive is switched off, the properties of your active propulsion drive switches back to the default, with-inertia drive.Wolfy wrote:Turning the engine off makes you stop; the principal of an intertialess ship is that it can translocate your ship without giving it inertia, thus once it is deactivated, it will nolonger move.

It is as Androgeos wrote. If disabling devices were not allowed, then the inertialess drive, among others, would be more trouble that it is worth.
P.S. At least for standard playerships. In mods that let the player pilot a massive, slow ship such as a CSC, I would have an inertialess drive installed and enabled always.

I misinterpreted what he was talking about -I hadn't realised he was talking about disabling.Androgeos wrote:It doesn't, Wolfy. You're forgetting the default thrusters.
