I had a damaged patch spider I tried to get repaired at a Rassermeier factory, but it did not recognize it as an item to be repaired, even after I removed it as an item and had it in my inventory.
I also have a 500MW engine that is damaged (now 400MW). I've gone to Rassermeier, and again, they did not recognize anything needing repairs. I've never gone there with the damaged engine in my inventory (as that would require buying a different engine and getting it installed, then flying back to Rassermeier), but if that would work, I might try it.
What should Rassermeier be able to repair?

Is there any way to have damaged ship items repaired? I seem to recall that there was, but I just recently started playing the game gain after a year or so, and I'm still re-learning.

Bobby is correct- they will only repair items which they produce, so they can repait anything from a smart cannon to an akan to a Rasiermesser launcher.
Here is the list of items they will repair:
Dvalin Ion9 cannon
Rasiermesser SmartCannon
Flenser relativistic cannon
MAG launcher
Akan 30 cannon
Akan 600 turret
dual Flenser cannon
Rasiermesser launcher
I'm pretty sure they can repair their armors via this dockscreen, but it would be redundant to list them, considering most places would be able to repair the armor anyways.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a purist and don't play with mods except for total conversions and bug fixing ones.Bobby wrote:if you want to repair other things and don't mind using a mod there is the Almighty Wrench

Oh, btw- you can repair your damaged reactors with a longzu sphere - its sort of a random chance though depending on the number of spheres you use (You CAN mail-order them from trading posts though!
). Personally, I'd just save up to buy a hyperion and then use the spheres to boost it up to 1.2GW.
(For everyone reading this thread, longzu spheres will repair or enhance:
shields
energy weapons (ie, laser, particle, ion, positron)
reactors)

I thought a Longzu sphere might do it (I must have remembered from back before my year long Transcendence vacation) but I tried one and it didn't do anything. I must not have tried enough.
I came up with some good ideas for repairs in the Bugs & Brainstorms forum, hopefuly George will take some of them into consideration.

I made a mod where Commonwealth Drydock repairs most items, it doesn't seem to change gameplay all that much. I'll post it to Xelerus if anyone's interested.
This is our game. And George is our hero.
Repair is only really useful for non-energy weapons that you can't get in stores, or for things that you're likely to break yourself. That means the plasma cannons off the Phobos, possibly Nandao bolt cannons (though they can turn up in black markets), Advanced Tritium Cannons, and patch spiders. I suppose it would let you more reliably get your hands on a shtorm repeater too.
So, no. Not much real effect on gameplay.

paying a few thousand credits for a longzu is a whole lot better than paying tens or hundreds of thousands for a whole new gun...

If you can buy the gun it's better to do so. Longzhou are best reserved for upgrades or to make sure you have enough to fuel the Qianlong through an obnoxious boss fight.
Longzhou should only be used to repair specialty stuff like Ares Archannons, Ares Lightning Turrets, and Kaidun shields.
Money is easy to get and rins are easier. Enhancers are in short supply.
