Stupidest early game death.

Location: Dodging jumpmissiles in a Helion

I was running a ship mod at the time...
In a Enforcer-class cruiser, I looted a Gem of Despair. I used it and teleported to Elysum. I look around and find the Herectic stargate. I think "Cool! I can skip to the end and do cool stuff!". Little did I know it takes more than a Gotha missile to kill a sentinel. So I decided to backtrack untill I found the system I teleported from(Sanctuary?). Come across Ventari and try to kill them with Gotha missiles(forgot I had Starcannon). Plasma shield doesn't like ion. I self-destruct and try an unmodded game.

This just happened. And I'm not impressed.

I took a mission to defend one of those agricultural colonies.
Only I failed. Probably my fault for only having pair of lasers and not having enough hit to kill everything quickly.
Okay. No biggie just pick up the pieces and move on, plenty more to do.
And then I forget about it for several systems.

I finally get to St. Kat's only to be sent to prison for destroying that^^ colony.

Stuff like that has happened to me before too. Likely one of your shots that missed an enemy wound up being the killing blow on the station after the enemies weakened it, which tags you as the base killer instead of the enemies.

Yeah, that sort of thing is why I typically don't bother with ag-defense missions. :(

Why my last game is now in the Recycle Bin: Arena, some jackhole with high-powered MAGs, and not enough room to mount an omni so only one armor facing matters. Wheeee!

(In the arena to qualify for the Militia missions. Korolov wasn't spawning that well this game.)

Got 1.1 today and jumped right into it. Everything is going great. Get to rigel and decide eh I got enough power, let's do some arena battle. 1st set of noobs, destroyed, 2nd set start to feel like this was a bad idea, 3rd set a random anarchist style ship has a shield that's pretty much immune to laser. I play freighter and never bothered to upgrade my dinky omni red beam. Try and put it to autopilot and watch his shield go from 100 to around 50 and then jump back up. Run out of fuel and die.

Not my death, but rather my escortee.

A mid level Korolov mission, pretty much a coffee and cake run round the local star to a Tempus Lab and back again.
Bad timing was the culprit here, as we approached the lab a BM transport escorted by about a half-dozen Zulu gunships appeared on a more or less parallel course. You can see what is going to happen here....

But it doesn't.
The Korolov ship opens fire on the transport as it's docking at the lab.
A few shots land and anger the transport and it's escorts but just as the ship docks the last shot it fires clips the Molotok parked there, which then proceeds to turn the stationary ship to glitter with MAGs.

I didn't even reload because stupidity like that needs to be documented for posterity.

In one of my playthroughs, I decided to go kill Arco ASAP (after liberating Raisu of course) since with an OTL he's easy to bait, and he isn't exactly immune to the OTL. Unfortunately, that particular session Arco decided to spawn with a NAMI and Stilettos.

I didn't last long.

PS: does Double KO'ing with the Khronosaur count? >.<

I should have kept that save where I killed arco vaughin with the default equipment, freighter and not cheating with friendly stations :S

The disposable launcher is free money as far as I'm concerned. You can defeat Arco with an unmodified EI500. You outrange him unless he has NAMI. >_>

(Or, for a faster way, you can bait him towards Station Eridiani and let every bounty hunter have a go at him, because unlike the 1.01 days, Arco in version 1.1 refuses to give up chasing you.)

Yeah this one had the nami and KM500's, I also said that I didn't cheat using friendly stations :P

@PM: Challenge playthroughs, that's why :P That entire playthrough was supposed to be a perma death, but I got snagged by a sung while I still had level III shields and crap armor, so no go...

For Arco, I prefer to have a NAMI installed so I can get the KM500 missiles instead of the DM1500 launcher. I get more shots that way, and I will have some leftover for any Charon frigates soon after Eridani. As for killing him, I prefer to let station guards to do my dirty work. Scratch him, sit on station, and let the guards waste him. (This is why in Playership Drones, you must kill Arco yourself if you want the free shipwright in his wreck.)

To FourFire: That is not cheating! It is a legitimate, and smart, strategy. Why do the dirty work when some other chump will gladly do the work for you?

Edit: Assuming standard game, letting guards kill Arco means I do not need to waste any of the free missiles (except maybe one to aggravate him) I get from Raisu.
