What's Insurance good for? (In Transcendence, I mean)

I've found 3 or 4 centers offering insurance for 10k. What is the point if I can save at anytime?
Insurance lets you keep permadeath conduct even after you die. If you do not care about permadeath, insurance is harmful to you because it takes your money and auto-saves the game after you claim insurance. For example, something just ruined your game, and you self-destruct to avoid saving the game; but if you were insured, you claim insurance, respawn, and your game is saved anyway.
