I've run into this problem while searching both official and unofficial forums, though I've not been able to solve the problem.
Anacreon does not recognized it's own .SAVED files... at least on my pc. I follow the saved file location to the "documents and settings" folder, and confirm the file exists, though the game does not acknowledge the file. Tried changing the location of the file (under "options") and still no luck. I even went so far to create an installer that has the program recognize the .saved file, and still, no luck.
Running XP, with SP2. Any other suggestions?

I don't remember off hand, but anacreon uses an old-fashioned file selection system that only shows the files its designed to recognize, right? (I havn't played it in quite some time...)
Anyways, also good to see a person from way back when! ^^

Thanks on the welcome back
I come and I go- so much to see and do
This is the newer incarnation of Anacreon, the 2.1d version. A saved game is saved as a ".(dot)SAVED" file. Crazy thing is I can't get the software to recognize it's own file.

I'm pretty sure Anacreon stores and absolute path for saves in the registry for when it's reading, and uses a relative path when writing. I think so anyway, it's been a long, long time since I played it.
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad
Anacreon (the windows version, atleast) stores it's save files in the app data folder by default.
If you are running xp, the directory would be this -
C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Neurohack\Anacreon\*.saved
