I think hold means stop and hold position and wait means do nothing (do not fire at enemies, do not brake if in motion).
One thing I had noticed while testing shpOrderHold in the Upgradeable Wingmen mod (and is also why it wasn't used) is that if you order the wingman to 'hold' while moving in formation, they'll continue to drift in a straight line....infinitely! While shpOrderWait on the other hand, stops 'em on a dime no matter how fast they were traveling.
Also, shpOrderWait does indeed allow a ship (wingmen) to fire at enemies while sitting still.

A ship can be ordered to wait indefinitely by calling shpOrderWait with a wait time of 0 or Nil.
My testing produced the opposite of the results in FAD's post above. Maybe it switched the function names in the post?
Has anyone successfully used shpOrderHold with a hold time? When I tested, ships would hold indefinitely even when a time was specified. (I assume the hold time is measured in seconds.)
