could you also add a check that there are no enemy ships within say 20 ls too?
I've accidentally killed a number of friendlies because they came too close while I was still fighting the second half of a swarm.

And nobody should ever complain if they get blown up anyways...Atarlost wrote:Fragile ships should allways be avoiding enemies.

How is the credit system considered to work in the Transcendence universe? Is it like the credit card system where the merchant puts in a request to your bank and waits for their response? If so, wouldn't the signal have to propagate through space to the gate, get repeated through the gate somehow, etc. ad infinitum with a wait of several minutes before they got a response? and you could even outstrip the signal by using a jumpdrive creatively.

In the Star Wars universe, the credit was a tyoe of chip, or card; the information necessary to complete the transaction was encoded on the card. So if you were given x amount of credit chips in payment for services, you would essentially run the card through the ship's computer and the money would be credited to your account. It functioned much like a prepaid debit card; each credit chip had a certain monetary value. Perhaps the credit system works much the same way in Transcendence.
In Star Wars, signals were sent via subspace transmission either through the Old Imperial Holonet, or through the Empire's current holonet / satellite transmission system. When a ship exited hyperspace, they had to wait for their messages to download. Perhaps in Transcendence, the messages are sent through the stargate so that one could receive them almost instananeously.

The first suggestion is unlikely, since when insurance companies resurrect you, you have all your money. They would go out of business if they were forced to repay all your destroyed credits in addition to your ship.Darth Saber wrote:In the Star Wars universe, the credit was a tyoe of chip, or card; the information necessary to complete the transaction was encoded on the card. The second has problems since there is no indication that there is any method for anything, including information, to travel faster than light in the Transcendence universe other than hypergates and jumpdrives. Messages would still need to travel between gates and from the gate to the player's ship at lightspeed, which is not anywhere near instantaneous at Transcendence's scale (it is the speed at which laser weapons travel).

The information could have been compressed into a tight beam transmission, beamed through a minute wormhole created by the ship's communications array, and received by it's intended recipient, whose computer would decompress the data, and thus rceive the meassage. This type of scenario was depicted in an episode of Stargate Atlantis, when Atlantis was facing extermination by the Wraith. Rodney McKay suggested this to Dr. Weir in saying that they could compress the entire computer database into a tight beam transmission and send it to Stargate Command within the few seconds of power remaining in the ZPM. It was also suggested in the Stargate SG1 series, that the gate did not actually have to be activated to send a message through the gate due to the correlative updates feature of the stargates themselves.
Perhaps then, messages are sent to the gate, and then to the ship somewhat faster than the speed of light.
