With the upgradeable wingmen mod, does it matter what reactor your wingmen are running? Does it limit what weapons or devices you can install? It appears primarily to affect your fuel consumption personally, and that's not an issue for them.
Any advice? Should I upgrade their reactors or is that wasting my money?
Questions about function of upgradeable wingmen
The install device dockscreen does check for a sufficient reactor, so better weapons and shields require better reactors.
Yes, upgrade their reactors. By end-game my main fighter usually has an enhanced koshiba 500 (or sometimes a hyperion if I find one for sale at a commonwealth station), that way he/she/it can power the im90.
EXPLOIT:
Unlike the player, however, devices don't add up to overload the reactor. A 25mw reactor on a wingman can support a 20mw weapon, a 20mw shield, and any miscellaneous devices you care to add on to the existing 40mw total.

Do you find it useful to arm your wingmen with missile weapons, or is keeping up with ammunition not worth the trouble?
Oh, and to clarify about your exploit: The wingman's reactor has to be strong enough to support each device on their ship, but not all of the devices together. Is that correct?

Correct.
It depends on the weapon. Something that has light, cheap, readily available ammo could be worth it, but I rarely use ammo weapons apart from missile launchers, so I can't give too much advice here.
From what I remember, wingmen don't know how to use multiple weapons well, though that may have changed.
EDIT: I just did a quick test: Volkov with a dual laser cannon and nami launcher armed with starburst missiles. He used the laser on centauri raiders and missiled the bases, so I guess the ai has improved. Note that I did save and load prior to test.

Yes, ptbptb, I think the problem was I needed to start a fresh game for the mod to work correctly. As it stood, some of the new functions were working, but not the whole.
