If you have an installed drive device, does the drive ADD to the ship's max speed, thrust, energy used, etc... or does it SET the values for the ship to use?

add, I just tested a ship with 1mil+ mass and thrust, it accelerated equally well with the upgrade. if the upgrade had set the values rather than add, it would accelerate worse than a csc most likely.

Further investigation suggests to me that a drive will SET values, but only if the new value is better than the ship's default value.

So if you have a drive that offers very little thrust but requires no fuel, and you equip it on a standard ship, the ship will retain its normal thrust, but use no fuel.

Which kinda sucks, because unless to modify the starting ships to have practically no default speed or thrust, all you can do is provide a series of drives that are better than the last, much like reactors. If you try to provide drives with good points and bad points, your ship will only use the good points.

Although you could break them up into a few categories:
- drives that boost your top speed
- drives that boost your thrust
- drives that improve your gas mileage

And maybe some in each area. Then you can choose whether you want to invest in a drive based on efficiency, velocity or maneuverability.
