I've been wondering if there is any way to modify the .SAV file and still play it? It's not something I'm hugely interested in, but I was thinking it might be a fun way to modify a single game or a game in progress, as opposed to universal mods.

For example, the sav file includes a list of all the things which the tinkers will make. It would be fun, especially considering the play-by-email section on UTF, if the sav file could be changed so that no matter what you give them, the tinkers will always end up making radioactive waste (a gag idea) or duralloy armor (an easy cheat).

Has anyone tried this? I imagine that the mechanics between the xml/tdb/exe and sav files makes this idea more or less impossible. But maybe...?

It *COULD* be done, but would require either using a Hex editor with some knowledge of the file structure, or using a tailor-made savegame editor which does not yet exist to my knowledge.

Plus, from looking at the file with Dump-O-Matic (A little progy I made in my spare time) I have a feeling they're encrypted somehow.
[schilcote] It doesn't have to be good, it just has to not be "wow is that the only thing you could think of" bad
