During my time as a member of the Transcendence Community, I have heard several modders mention that they use Adobe Photoshop. Now my question is this: do those of you who use Photoshop in making your mods, use the actual program Adobe Photoshop, or do you use Adobe Photoshop Elements. There is a big difference when it comes to pricing / cost, and I would like to know which one is the most used by modders, before I go shopping.

Just get GIMP. It's a free download.

I have three versions of GIMP as well as the GIMP Workshop. What I am asking about is Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop has features and abilities which GIMP lacks. Many modders have mentioned that they use Photoshop; that is why I am asking about Photoshop.

I don't think any of those features are useful for Transcendence modding. It just means that some people have been gulled into shelling out for Adobe bloatware or are actually the sort of image editing professionals that can justify the expense. Already having it they'll use it even if it's massive overkill because they're used to the interface.

The key is a good 3d modeling program. All you need the 2d program for is spritesheeting, rescaling, doing masks, and converting to the desired file formats. And there's a java applet floating around that will do the spritesheeting for you.

there are alternatives, Paint Shop Pro for example.
Cheaper, but very powerful. It's also compatible with photoshop plugins.

Corel versions start from version X (or 10), the program has been considerably changed
so if you find a Paint Shop Pro 9 at your local store, you get a nice program at probably a very low price

paint.net is great too for almost everything i need to do. most of the heavy rendering is done in a 3d program and i'd rather spend the money there than on a touch up details. no matter how good a program is though, it's a matter of how well you know how to use it. :)
