Constantly trying out, tweaking/rebalancing and removing Transcendence mods means I'm spending quite a bit of time restarting from scratch in the Eridani system. That's fine with me, but it seems to be taking longer and longer to get out of the first couple of systems.
Then it hit me. I haven't seen CW stations offer any basic damage enhancement devices for sale for a while now. As in, multiple games in a row. That's why everything is dying so slowly to my attacks.
The reason behind what I've dubbed the Great Collimator Exodus is, I suspect, that there are a LOT of player-created level 1 & 2 devices in all these item packs and modpacks out there. They're simply crowding out the really, really useful Laser Collimators and kinetic enhancers that the large Commonwealth stations are supposed to offer you in the early-to-mid game.
Don't get me wrong: most of these gadgets are undoubtedly useful in the right situation, but they're simply not as universally useful as a 50-75% bonus on your damage output at that stage in the game.
Personally speaking, the above isn't a problem for me: I spent all night figuring out how to override vanilla content so I could block CW stations from selling certain player-made devices.
I have two reasons for raising this issue:
1- This has to be frustrating for players who don't enjoy taking apart other people's mods as much as I do;
2 - To increase modders' awareness of the unintended side effects of adding multiple low-level devices.
Proposed fix:
Modifying the CW stations to always have a fixed % chance of selling weapon enhancers in addition to any other low-level devices.
Issue: lv1-2 devices crowding out weapon enhancers.

You weren't kidding when you mentioned on IRC that you got back into modding.

If you love something, tweak it and twist it. Keep bending it until it breaks. Rip it apart, remix it, rebuild it. Kill your darlings and stitch them together again.
