You might be proposing something different: the reproduction itself is "assisted". In other words, two of your synthetic humans cannot reproduce--they need some technological assistance. That is definitely an interesting concept.

Or maybe they can synthesise eggs, but not the ancestral fertilising sperm. Synthetic human - synthetic human love is doomed.

What I mean by "synthetic" is an egg built in a lab from the DNA chemicals up. The mother would be the futuristic equivalent of your HP printer, and when fertilised could be carried to term either in a human woman via in-vitro fertilisation, or using artificial womb technology.

When you say "Terran is a term commonly used in sci-fi to refer to humans." , you are mostly correct. In Sci-Fi, it refers to where the humans are from: Terra (Earth). Thus anything from EARTH is Terran, not just humans. Thus Terran eggs (which are edibles) are more than likely chicken eggs, the most common edible egg on Terra.
