"Infinitely superior to the synthetic variety produced on most stations"
Does this mean that many humans born on space stations are from fertilised synthetic eggs?
Unsettling.
3 Cases of Terran Eggs
This revelation will be disturbing for you, Fossaman. I am sorry.
Terran is a term commonly used in sci-fi to refer to humans. I've read and re-read the Terran eggs description and regretably, it does read Terran eggs and not Chicken eggs.

It may have a double meaning, but that's because humans come from earth. So do the chicken eggs.
When you buy eggs, do you think, 'oh, I better make sure I get chicken eggs!' when you look at the shelves? Use some common sense, please.

I have considered this information fully.
You might be right, they might be chicken eggs. But the way it reads, and in a science-fiction context, it seems as if the game is referencing human eggs. "Terran eggs" is ambiguous, perhaps deliberately.
Thats not to say you can't scramble them, poach them, boil them or serve them with terran ham...

You've got options; confusion, ambiguity. Double entendre is best.Yugimotomanager wrote:lol!OddBob wrote:Anyhow I just had some Italian sausage and French bread for dinner. Sorry about eating your countrymen Europeans.
Such is the bane of English. There's probably a word for this sort of thing.

Probably. As near as I can recall (without loading up the game and checking out the Corporate Trading Posts) they have the same graphic as Slave Coffins, Chrominium Gas, Segway Anti-Grav platforms, Uranium Rods... - as well as most food items. If the were medical, they would probably be demanded by desperate CSC doctors.dvlenk6 wrote:Well, they are listed as luxury food.
Wouldn't they be medical if they were reproductive human eggs?

When you say "Terran is a term commonly used in sci-fi to refer to humans." , you are mostly correct. In Sci-Fi, it refers to where the humans are from: Terra (Earth). Thus anything from EARTH is Terran, not just humans. Thus Terran eggs (which are edibles) are more than likely chicken eggs, the most common edible egg on Terra.

Quite probably.Icabod458 wrote:Cardinal

The idea of a synthesised human egg is an interesting concept though. If technology is advanced enough to do that, albeit inferior to the organic variety (and perhaps it is in the universe of Transcendence, there are lots of weird quasi-human races: eg, Ferians) a question has to be asked of what manner of being we are dealing with here. Still human? A race of synthetic people? What if the fertilising sperm was human, and not synthetic?
Perhaps people born from a synthetic egg are seen as inferior through prejudice, but in fact have massive disease immunity and long life spans so people fear and resent them.
It could be an interesting political/religious factor to introduce to the game. Have a race of synthetic people seeking equal rights, the right to be seen as human. You might draw parallels to black civil rights movements, or womans sufferage, or the holocaust in WWII.

I don't know what I'd do without my Terran eggs and a side of Terran bacon in the morning...Cardinal wrote:Terran is a term commonly used in sci-fi to refer to humans. I've read and re-read the Terran eggs description and regretably, it does read Terran eggs and not Chicken eggs.

I like this line of thought.Cardinal wrote:The idea of a synthesised human egg is an interesting concept though. Here are some of the ideas that I'm using for "what it means to be human" in the Transcendence universe:

"Synthetic" is an ambiguous term. Take the example of the Ringers. I imagine that they used germ-line modification of natural sperm/egg to alter themselves to their present form. Not too different from traditional 20th century breeding techniques (except that they do it on themselves). But I always imagined that after the initial modification, reproduction happens the old-fashioned way (by definition--that's the point of germ-line mods).
You might be proposing something different: the reproduction itself is "assisted". In other words, two of your synthetic humans cannot reproduce--they need some technological assistance. That is definitely an interesting concept.
