I don't think that is what ThePrivateer meant.

As for responsibility and trust, and how to come about it, personally I just spent a crazy amount of time on irc and here as well, mainly answering q's on scripting and modding. Since I work with the web on a daily basis it just felt natural one day to ask George for some moderation rights. In other words, I never really did anything special to deserve it, just spent a lot of time here and had fun doing what I like (scripting).

I think these things in the end come about naturally. Just like ppl will know you ThePrivateer by your actions and your posts. That should in the end be respect enough, should it not? If what you want to do is spend more time administrating the community, there are plenty of things to do. Just ask, and I would be glad to delegate a task to you :D (send me a pm or drop me a line on irc).

Otherwise I think it would be nice with some notability ranks, and other fun ranks. It is a game after all! :D. We just need to come up with something that works and makes sense. And something fun.

However, the whole voting thing seems a bit, uhm, optimistic? Not sure if it would work. On the other hand, it might be the only way it can work... I know for sure that I would not want to run more polls (as in manage them). Need to think more about that one...

I honestly was not sure what ThePrivateer meant, so I was trying to find out, but your probably right that wasn't what he meant.

And I totally agree with alterecco, many of the administrators on this forum are or were on the chat / IRC quite extensively and doing long discussions, ideas, work, collaboration, etc. You can help out answer questions, contribute to discussions on irc, and basically do what everything else has done. In the process its usually quite fun.

The admins get to retain their rights - for whatever reasons, they have earned that right in some way and I think it would be unfair to remove that right from them - however, if they haven't been on the forums for a long time, say upwards of six months or a year, I think we should consider removing that title.

Admin and Moderator shouldn't be the only ranks - those ranks come with responsibilities, regarding the management of the forum/registrations and other such stuff. Notable member is for people who love the forum, love helping out and are awarded the position because of their work, but don't want pressure in any way -- that's the purpose of the Cycle, dumping each Member's rights before the next vote. Notable Members get their three months of fame, but afterwards they get demoted and have to re-earn their right again.

Also, I'm all for 'fun' ranks. TBH, I think it would spice up the forums a bit and inject a bit of...well...fun...into the forum. Not that we aren't already fun, but it could be nice to have some cool ranks floating around, randomly assigned to different people. That would require a bit of dicussion and thought though.

As I have said before (somewhere), I'm not angling for the top job as Admin, or even really as a moderator. It just seems unfair that the only way that people are ranked is by their posts. There should be another way to sort out people who are dedicated, helpful or notable in anyway. And if those people stop becoming helpful, or notable, take the rank away and give it to another deserving person.

The ranks should be across the community as well -- people that pitch in on IRC, the Wiki, Xelerus and the forums should be classed as 'more notable' than just IRC people, or just Xelerus modders. Truly helpful and notable people will help across all fronts, and it should improve the community.

I'm not going to even bother quoting that, however ranks are not given by posts, look at alterecco and quite a few other people.

Considering that every admin was promoted at the very least 7 months ago, none could have been here for 6 months or less...

I see there are quite a few new groups...that seems pretty new. ;) Any word yet on what they all do (some are self-explanatory, I know, but still).

BTW, Documentartist sounds cool. And geeky. 8-)

*bump bump Wolfy*

I haven't been on IRC as of late, so...what's the word on all the new member groups? I see overnight a fair few got squashed together, which looks better, but I was waiting for some kind of official notice about the new groups....

Wolfy, you still haven't posted anything official yet...I see just last night that everything got changed again and I think it looks better now - previously it didn't make sense to be splitting everything into little groups...

The only thing I have to say otherwise is that I don't like the pink for Wiki Documentartist. This is a forum about a cool space-shooter and pink is kinda against any kind of decent colour scheme we have going here. I suggest gold or orange as a better colour.

*staff meeting?* Oh. wait. 'Cos you're Community Staff now. >.>

Well...I don't see why we can't use gold, just because it's on another forum -- if we make our forum by that standard, we wouldn't be using any colours at all. Well, white is for closed, black is for banned -- how about...um...maroon?

All of the colors are specifically picked according to a set colorscheme alterecco came up with.

And technically its not pink >.> At any rate I'll probably look at adjusting the color accordingly now that its the only such membergroup
